Lady Gaga says that singing the American national anthem at the Super Bowl is a “dream come true”.

Bringing her ‘Poker Face’ to Super Bowl 50 (sorry – we couldn’t help it), Lady Gaga will perform ‘The Star-Spangled Banner‘ at the 50th annual sporting event which takes place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California today. The singer says that singing the anthem will be the top notch of her career…. Because, Murica.

Lady Gaga To Sing National Anthem Super Bowl 50

After some time keeping off the radar – Gaga is on the way back with new music in the coming months. It’s believed that her record company have payed to secure the rights to have the star belt out the anthem at this years event to gain her international exposure.

It comes as the singer prepares for a new album which will drop later this year and we are expected to hear a new single in the coming month. The currently untitled studio album will be the first taste of new music from Gaga since singing Jazz with Tony Bennett on ‘Cheek to Cheek‘ and her first set of original songs since 2013’s Artpop. So the move is an attempt to get Lady Gaga back in the spotlight and on your mind before the new tracks hit the airwaves soon.

Gaga dropped the news of the new tracks backstage at the Golden Globes in January, saying back stage:

“You know, I am putting out an album this year. I won’t tell you when!” (via EW)

It doesn’t stop there – it seems her management are keen to get her as much exposure in the quickest possible time frame. The 29-year-old singer is also set to perform at the upcoming Grammy Awards AND at the Oscars. Yup, there’s some serious marketing money behind this global publicity push.

No doubt the singer is pretty excited:

She spoke with the NFL Network to comment on what it means to get selected.

“It’s such an honour, and a total dream come true. I’ve always wanted to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event ever since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl… it is the ultimate..

“This is one of the highest honours of my career.

“I get a chance to sing for all the athletes who have been working so hard their whole life for this moment.”

The 29-year-old singer wants her performance to be “majestic” and plans to sing the song “very true” to the way it was written.

She said:

“I have to live up to a song that stands the test of time.

“I think the best way to do that is kind of forget about yourself and just focus on what it means. … I’m really singing it from the heart and I’m also singing it really very true to the way that it was written, because I think that’s when it sounds its most majestic.”

But Gaga won’t be cheering either the Carolina Panthers or Denver Broncos on to victory. She insisted: I am here to root for everybody. I’m interested in watching the throw down.”
