Disney Has Given Us Our First Look At The Live-Action ‘Mulan’
Walt Disney Studios has unveiled the first image of Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei as Mulan in its upcoming live-action film adapation of the iconic Chinese folkstory.
Production on the film officially began on Monday, and to mark the occasion Disney tweeted a photo of Liu in character. And she looks every bit as badass as we could have hoped.

Liu was cast in the title role after an extensive search went through more than 1,000 candidates. She is huge in China, and has also featured in a number of Hollywood films including The Forbidden Kingdom and Outcast.
In addition to Liu, Mulan will star Jet Li as the Emperor of China, Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor Commander Tung, and Yoson An as her love interest Chen Honghui. The film will be directed by New Zealander Niki Caro, who previously helmed Whale Rider and The Zookeeper’s Wife.
Mulan is due to hit cinemas in the US on March 27, 2020.
