The Internet Agrees The ‘Love Is Blind’ Men Have Never Been More Toxic

As another season of Love Is Blind prepares to come to an end, it seems like the men are worse this season… even worse than usual.

The reality series hosts singles as they fall in love with strangers from inside pods, choosing to become engaged with someone without ever seeing their physical form. Once they come face-to-face, they go on honeymoons, move in together, and attempt to blend their lives, before deciding to get married.

Season 3 of the Netflix show debuted five couples: SK and Raven, Brennon and Alexa, Bartise and Nancy, Matt and Colleen, and Cole and Zanab. While the first two couples have faced their challenges — namely, Raven trying to adapt to SK’s more traditional Nigerian culture — it’s the last three who have become hard to watch due the men’s treatment of their fiancés.

Love Is Blind has seen its fair share of low-key toxic men and women over the years. The first season had controversial contestant Jessica, and who can forget last season’s Shaina with her ‘steal yo’ man’ energy and garbage person, Abhishek aka Shake.

However, Bartise, Cole and namely, Matt, have made all these former contestants looks like angels…well, besides Shake. I ain’t defending that guy. But back to Season 3, some of these men are just the worst.

Let’s begin with Bartise, the man who showed the most red flags right from the beginning. While on honeymoon with his fiancé Nancy, Bartise thought it was appropriate to confess to her how attractive her found Raven, another contestant he had struck up a romance with in the pods.

After meeting Raven at the couples’ mixer, Bartise returned to his hotel room that he shared with Nancy where he waffled on about how Raven was a “smoke show” and “f***ing gorgeous” (we get, mate) and added that “on paper, me and [her] make sense.” Just a normal thing to tell the woman you’re about to marry!

In later episodes, Bartise started to distance himself from Nancy, citing that he was no longer physically attracted to her. He only started giving her attention again when he spotted her talking with Andrew at a cast party, a man who also proposed to her in the pods.

The audacity of this man!

I mean, I felt bad for him when he was spilling his heart out in the pods while Raven was doing jumping jacks but knowing what we know now… I kind of get it.

Moving on to Cole, this man is closer to a clumsy golden retriever than human person. This God-fearing real estate agent seemed okay at first. He was dating both Zanab and Colleen in the pods, but decided to break-up with Colleen after she (rather bizarely) said she didn’t want to talk about deep stuff, preferring to remain ‘surface level’ with umm… her future husband.

Since becoming engaged to Zanab, Cole started to take issue with his fiancé’s changing moods. “I just want someone sweet,” he said to this human woman who is not a butterscotch lolly. “Be sweet. Be unassuming,” he added. Wtf.

Cole wasn’t done there, he then went on to diagnose his future wife as having bipolar disorder because umm… she complained that he left towels on the bathroom floor. He said all of this to Zanab despite the fact that during most of their time together he’s been talking about how Colleen is the hottest person on the show, telling Zanab that he rates her a 10/10 while Zanab only got a 9/10.

Yet somehow, this man is surprised that his wife-to-be expresses a range of different emotions. I just can’t!

However, if Bartise and Cole are red flags, then Matt is a goddamn red banner. His behaviour on Love Is Blind has been extremely worrying, with the contestant acting quite volatile and controlling in his treatment of fiancé, Colleen.

The trouble began after Colleen had a conversation with Cole at the first couples’ mixer during the honeymoon episodes. In the chat, Cole was flirting heavily and telling her he would typically date someone that looked like her, as Colleen merely agreed, barely engaging in the convo. She told Matt about the exchange — reenforcing she had no interest in Cole — but he blew up at her and threatened to leave.

In a recent episode, on a group night out Colleen went out with the girls to a club while Matt returned to their shared home. Once again, Matt exploded and threatened to leave his fiancé. Huge yikes.

I don’t understand why Colleen is putting up with Matt’s nonsense but all we can do is hope that she dumps him at the altar.

This show is not healthy!

The final instalment of Love Is Blind drops on 9 November.
