When it was announced that the one and only shoey king, Al Perkins, would be joining Love Island this year, we were cheering.

After winning over Australia on Married At First Sight, he deserved another shot at love. But did his second round of reality TV help him find his soulmate?

Well, the short answer is: no.

TL;DR: Al joined the villa as a bombshell mid-season, and the girlies, especially Stella Hutcheon, were smitten. He eventually made a major impression on resident gamer girl, Jessica Losurdo, and the pair coupled up.

And they definitely made one hell of a TV couple. They argued a lot over jealousy, they had a really steamy moment in the hideaway, and the pair solidified their relationship with a shoey ceremony.

But all good things must come to an end, as Jess and Al were the latest couple to be given the boot from the villa at the hands of the superfans… whoever they are.

To add to the sad news of their eviction, Jess and Al have shared that they’re no longer a couple since their run on Love Island.

In an interview with 9Entertainment, Al revealed where he and Jess currently stand outside of the show. “Right now, at the moment, me and Jess are just friends,” the shoey king said. “But we speak almost every second day.”

Jess reflected on their romance, adding to Al’s statement, “Honestly, I could not have asked for a better partner. He was so fun to be with, he was always up for anything and just a very good laugh.”

Al spoke about his experiences on both Love Island and MAFS and compared how they impacted his search for love. “I guess the big difference is that you get to choose who you want to be with. With MAFS you have experts to sort of guide you, and on Love Island you’re really just thrown in there with everybody else, and everyone’s working on their own relationships,” Al said.

Although they’re no longer romantically linked, Jess confirmed that they both keep in touch. “We’re still the same, we’re still seeing where everything is going. We talk a lot, we see each other quite often, so we’re still good,” she said.

We’re definitely going to miss these Love Island superstars.

The Love Island grand finale kicks off tonight on 9Go and 9Now.
