Let It Be Known That The ‘Love Island’ Boys Wearing Pearls Is Damn Hot
They say pearls get the girls, and by ‘they’, I mean… me.
I say that. I am a girl and I have certainly been got by all the boys on Love Island wearing pearls in the villa this season.
I am goddamn hot for it.
The biggest pearl-wearer is Austen, a self-confessed Harry Styles fanboy, who has adopted the British singer’s glamorous aesthetic of rocking a pearl necklace… with every single outfit.
This man’s dedication to wearing pearls is admirable.
Austen won’t leave the house without his pearls. Here they are in the Baywatch challenge.

And again, a chain of pearls sits neatly behind Austen’s polo shirt. Pearls for every occasion!

The trend is catching on. Jordan has started pairing a string of pearls with his crystal necklace and Stereosonic shades. This is a bold look that Australia is ready for.
Andre adopted a more subtle look with a pearl bracelet. It’s understated, it’s classy, it’s flawless.
Tak took a bolder approach, showing off a thicker string of pearls wedged between a diamanté emblem.
Even our resident Welshie wore a thin string of pearls around his neck to accentuate his bare chest. Regal! Mystifying! Powerful!
I speak for all women here when I say: men wearing pearls is unfathomably attractive.
And this is the first time I’ve seen pearls almost universally embraced by men on reality TV, with the majority of the men in the villa wearing the accessory with at least one outfit.
Love Island UK finished airing in August this year and while it was a spectacular season, I did not spot a single man wearing pearls. I’m sorry but this takes the season from a solid 10 to a shaky two.
Any fashion choice that challenges preconceived gender norms is something worth celebrating. It should be noted that the Aussie Love Island boys are, of course, not the trendsetters. Men wearing pearls has been weaving its way into mainstream fashion since 2019 but has seemingly skyrocketed in 2022.
Some have pinpointed the vibe shift coming from Harry Styles repping a pearl earring at the 2019 Met Gala, but the likes of A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams have also been wearing pearls in recent years. And let’s not forget that queer men have been rocking pearls for decades, and royal aristocrats for well, err… a very long time.
I’m not a historian! I just like boys in pearls!
I don’t know where the pearl trend came from but I, for one, hope it’s here to stay.
