Some seasons of Love Island UK capture your attention from day one – for example, Season 5 was just action-packed from the beginning. Other seasons tend to be a slow burn but have a massive payoff and this year’s series has just gotten so, so good.

But before we talk about the hectic drama from the weekend’s episodes, let’s go over some of the main players involved. Starting with Toby: he was first matched with Kaz, who he strung along, until Chloe appeared and showed him some attention. In turn, Toby dropped Kaz like a hot potato.

Chloe became a contentious character at this stage, as she didn’t show a lot of empathy in her conversations with Kaz, but they eventually made amends, with Toby and Chloe becoming one of the longest-standing Love Island couples. Well… up until last week.

Enter Abigail, a new islander who took a shining to Toby, leading to Toby getting his head turned. Chloe kicked off, feeling hurt that he would entertain Abigail’s affections, while not communicating with her about where his ‘head was at’. Toby told Abigail that he was going to cool things down with Chloe, but before telling Chloe this, a recoupling ceremony was held and Toby pretty much dumped Chloe in front of everyone — by picking Abigail.

This rather savage moment led to Hugo — yes, Hugo who has struggled to find any connection all season — not just saving Chloe’s place on the show, but giving an unexpected speech about how Chloe deserved better.

What I found especially refreshing about Hugo’s speech was most of the other men’s reactions. While Jake immediately supported Toby, the rest of the guys seemingly sided with Hugo, which isn’t something I’ve seen on most other seasons of Love Island. Generally, when a male contestant ‘goes against the boys’ he is then shunned, but in this case, he had support from the likes of Aaron and Liam — who both agreed that Toby deserved to be called out, especially after making the same mistakes he did with Kaz.

Men being held accountable for their actions and not being excused under some bullshit ‘boys will be boys’ justification? We have to stan.

Some viewers are suspicious of Hugo’s timing, speculating that Hugo was standing up for Chloe because he had a crush on her, not because it was the right thing to do. Many Love Island fans are wondering where Hugo was when Kaz was being mistreated by Toby.

For what it’s worth, Kaz is not just doing fine — tbh she’s thriving! In some beautiful poetic justice, the night Toby and Chloe first started feuding was the same night Kaz shared her first kiss with new islander (and actual adonis) Tyler.

The next episodes promise that Casa Amor is on its way — famously the week when the women and men are separated and tempted by a whole new batch of attractive singles — so let’s pray that Tyler stays loyal to Kaz, because after what Toby did she deserves some good news.

As for Abigail and Toby…I’d be thrilled if Abigail dumped his ass. What a week of drama! If the episodes weren’t chaotic enough, the memes are an absolute riot.
