‘Love Island’ Has Finally Dropped Its Premiere Date & It’s Bloody Soon

Throw another shrimp on the barbie! You call that a knife! Vegemite! Oi oi oi! *Insert other stereotypical Australian slang*. The local series of Love Island is making its long-awaited return and the first promo is about as Aussie as it gets.

That’s right, after a two year hiatus, Love Island is back and here on home shores. Channel 9 just dropped its premiere date — and it’s bloody soon! The new season kicks off on 4 October.

This year’s season will not be based in some exotic location in Spain or Fiji – due to COVID restrictions, the 2021 cast will be meeting in a villa in Australia. While the show was initially to be filmed in sunny Port Douglas, due to recent border control restrictions, the season will now apparently be filmed in Byron Bay.

The first promo sees our host, Sophie Monk, dressed as a mermaid and leading two yachts packed with sexy singles to land, all while Men At Work’s ‘Down Under’ plays. Then we are greeted with every Aussie cliché imaginable, with hot people in speedos, applying sunscreen, cooking ummm… lamingtons on a barbecue, chowing down on Vegemite sandwiches, and even a winking koala.

Do you reckon this show is Australian, or nah?
