Mark Latham Attacks Rosie Batty As ‘Elitist’, Says Domestic Violence “Is A Coping Mechanism” For Men
Giving listeners a taste of his new Triple M show, Mark Latham kicked things off on a bright and cheery depressing and completely distasteful note this morning.
In a 20 minute sample clip promoting the former opposition leader’s new radio special, Latham immediately stepped over the line to defend domestic abusers by claiming that men use “domestic violence as a coping mechanism” and arguing that there shouldn’t be a national push behind stopping it.
The audio clip (stream below) comes ahead of Latham’s one-off, one hour special on the station and was published via Triple M earlier this morning.
Latham further used the opportunity to give listeners a piece of his vacant mind, attacking Australian of The Year Rosie Batty and labelling her as a cultural elitist, driving a left wing hate campaign “against all Australian men“.
His point was to make listeners aware that family violence is used as a “Trojan Horse being used to drive a left wing feminist position“.
In the the clip, Latham says,
“Surveys show women are safer than ever before, that, sure, there are some unacceptable incidents of domestic assault in the community, but they’re no worse than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Why this big national push?
He argues that violence against women occurs because men lack self-esteem and use violence to cope with the pressures of the real world. While we’ll agree to some extent that male self-esteem can be a factor in some cases, his blanket labelling and completely irrational views are deliberately aggressive and dangerous to nearly 500,000 Australian women who report physical or sexual violence each year (ABS, Personal Safety, Australia, 2005). Yup, that’s some Trojan Horse *face palm*.
Can you believe this bloke nearly ran our country?
Did Latham actually say domestic violence is a coping mechanism for men?
I mean, please tell me Im wrong.— Cynically Depressed (@TheKooriWoman) January 21, 2016
Here at TheVine, we welcome rational and constructive discussion around political correctness going to far (because on a lot of issues it really does). However, when it comes to ill-informed ramblings about hideous patterns of abuse that destroys families and tears lives apart – Australia says no – you fucking turd burger.
