EXPLAINER: What The Hell Is Going On Between ‘MAFS’ Exes Jake, Bec, & Sophie?
Oh boy. ICYMI: there is some real drama brewing on Instagram between Married at First Sight’s Jake Edwards and his exes Sophie Guidolin and Rebecca Zemek.
But before I jump into all that mess, let’s go back to the beginning. Jake was matched with Bec on MAFS, and while they stayed together beyond final vows, they split at the end of 2020. Jake then began dating fitness influencer, Sophie, and we know this because they were constantly papped together packing on the PDA — all while MAFS was still airing.
Once MAFS finished, Jake and Sophie became Instagram official.

They posed together all over both of their social media platforms, even coordinating a couple’s beach photoshoot. Super casual!

On the 9th of May, Jake posted a pic on his Instagram Story showing that he had got his girlfriend’s name tattooed. A real choice to make about a woman he had only been dating mere months.

In the following days, his MAFS wife Bec took a rather hilarious swipe at him, as she revealed that she had moved on with a new bloke, or more accurately she had reunited with an old flame she was dating before the reality show.
Bec posted a pic of herself kissing her new boyfriend, Ben Michell, and captioned the image: “No tattoos, just love.”

However, things between Jake and Sophie were clearly not as they seem. The day AFTER Jake posted the pic of his new tattoo, Sophie deleted every single photo featuring Jake from her Instagram. She even deleted the podcast episode that she recorded with Jake earlier this year. Five days after Jake posted about getting Sophie’s name tattooed, the So Dramatic! podcast claimed that Jake and Sophie had, in fact, split up. No kidding! A mess!
Host Megan Pustetto claimed that according to Jake’s close friend, “Yes, they have definitely broken up. They are both extremely volatile and impulsive. They broke up after having a fight, after Sophie went through Jake’s phone and found out he had been texting other women. Sophie dumped him immediately but Jake tried to explain it was just friends he was messaging.”
Sophie later confirmed they had split in an Instagram comment, writing “his values and character certainly do not align with my own”.

But the plot, she getting thicc. Enter radio host Mel Greig, who over the weekend posted on Instagram to defend Jake. She claimed to be one of the women who Jake was messaging and confirmed they were indeed “just friends”.
In the long spiel, Mel said, “Sophie is not comfortable with Jake and I being friends and being in contact,” she wrote. “Sophie felt uncomfortable with our friendship and felt that Jake was crossing boundaries and being disrespectful by being my friend and that played a big part in the break up.”

Alas, this story just keeps getting more confusing. Mel then posted another comment, where she back-peddled on her defence of Jake after she…spoke to Sophie! “Sophie has made me aware of other issues which are concerning and I’m just trying to hear both sides of the story first, but out of fairness for Sophie it’s important for me to be transparent where I can be,” Mel wrote.

In an even more recent development, Sophie also allegedly gave Bec a call, which Bec confirmed to So Dramatic! and posted about in a reflective caption on Instagram.
