In news that will probably please a whole bunch of people, Network 10 today announced that Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris will not return as judges in the next season of MasterChef Australia.

The dudes have been judges of the extremely popular cooking show for 11 years now, and are probably fairly sick of eating delicious food on television for loads of money. Understandable!

Network 10 chief executive officer Paul Anderson said: “Despite months of negotiation, 10 has not been able to reach a commercial agreement that was satisfactory to Matt, Gary and George.”

There’s been no word on whether the news has anything to do with the more than 20,000 people have signed a petition calling on MasterChef to fire celebrity chef George Calombaris, after last week’s revelation that his restaurants underpaid staff by more than $7.5 million dollars.

“We would like to thank Gary, George and Matt for their contribution over the past 11 years,” they continued.

Obviously this leaves the franchise open to a whole new generation of food judges — my vote is for Huey, and his excessive grinding of pepper.

“Australia is full of remarkable cooking talent and we can’t wait to introduce another group – and the next generation of exceptional judges – in season 12 of MasterChef Australia next year,” finished the statement.
