MASTERCHEF BaD-B0Y: George Calombaris Is Getting Sued For Food Poisoning

Poor ol’ Masterchef judge and Melbourne foodie George Calombaris can’t cop a break.

He was recently caught underpaying a bunch of staff (over 140 of them) at his tasty eateries, including  Helenic Republic, Gazi and Jimmy Grants.

If that wasn’t enough of a kick in the guts, he’s also being charged for shoving a 19-year-old heckler at the A-League Grand Final. That’s what ya get for fighting with kids.

Now his run of bad luck is getting worse. It’s all thanks to his Kew based Hellenic Republic restaurant, which is now being sued over a mass food poisoning incident in 2014, which left one man seriously ill and around 90 others feeling pretty crook.

The incident was so bad that the restaurant had to be closed down for 24 hours as Department of Health officials conducted their investigation.

The investigation found that on Mothers Day that year, 300 people feasted down on a delicious, but apparently harmful set-menu. The ingredients of said menu included one staff member adding an extra ‘secret ingredient’ – a subtle touch of norovirus with a not-so-subtle aftertaste of acute gastroenteritis. A real pallet cleanser.

So clearly things backfired, both literally and figuratively, for those that ate there that day (not sorry).

Now Calombaris’ is being chased up for damages, with one diner claiming that Calombaris neglected his customers and breached a contract with the restaurant-goers. The amount being demanded has not been disclosed and Georgey-boy is not making any media comments about the issue.
