MEET THE MEMELORD: The Facebook Admins Behind ‘Hot Dogs in Unusual Places’

Welcome back the second in our series of Q&A’s where we get to know the memelords fuelling the memeolution.

Today we’re chatting to ‘Hot Dogs In Unusual Places’ a Facebook page cooked up sometime around a year ago. In that short time, it’s quickly skyrocketed to more than 158K fans. The premise of the page is pretty straight forward. What it says on the can.

The admins post strange, out of context snags. They scour for these pics online, but more often than not, it’s the fans who submit their own strange hotdog snaps. For example:

But now on the back of the recent ‘dancing hotdog’ snapchat filter, the page has found a whole new lease on life, driving hilarious memes that have helped propel the Snapchat filter into one of the biggest memes of 2017 so far. What a time to be alive.

That’s not to say it doesn’t stay true to its original mission. All hotdogs, great and small have a home here.

So to hear some more on all this came to be, we spoke to one of the page’s admins to get some insight into what it’s like to be lord of the dogs.

How long have you been running ‘Hot Dogs in Unusual Places’ and what was the inspiration for starting the page?

I believe in August it will be one year that I’ve had the page. One night my friend put a hotdog in a glasses case, I told him I had a great idea and here we are now

How many admins are there?

There are three main contributing admins, although I don’t contribute as much as I should because I work a lot

I feel like this new dancing hotdog snapchat meme was made for your page, How do you feel about his creation?

I love the new snapchat filter, its doing great on the page and everyone seems to love it as well. I’ll be sad to see the meme die

You have reached 150,000 likes, did you ever think the page would come this far? And what are the plans for the future?

I had hoped the page would get big, but I never thought it would actually ever happen. I’m very happy with the outcome and the impacts I make on people who are having bad days. As for the future, I’m not sure. Maybe some merchandise someday.
