The unwilling threesome:

“Look, it’s a love triangle I was unwillingly part of — but I walked in on my then-boyfriend getting real cosy with a close friend of mine. I had no idea they’d been conducting anything under my nose, and when I caught them out my friend fled the scene and my ex denied any wrongdoing. It took them mere days after I moved out to start flaunting their relationship all over social media. It was fucked situation but I heard through the grapevine that one of them cheated on the other a year or two later, so I guess what goes around comes around.”

The gym BFFs:

“I was seeing a girl from my gym and then I started seeing her best friend at the same time. Let’s call them A and B. They hung out and started talking about their dating lives, and when A realised that B was hanging out with me too, instead of breaking it off she just kept hiding it from her and somehow accepting that B was coming over to my house straight after A left. A would literally be lying in my bed and telling her friend that she was at work or walking her dog. We even hung out as a group once which, now that I think about it, was such a poor choice and could have turned so explosive. Anyway long story short, neither of them talk to me anymore, they’re no longer friends, and both of them left my gym.”

Keep it in the family:

“So I was dating this girl and she’d apparently had a pretty rough past. When she brought me home to the parents they were stoked to see a somewhat normal bloke rock up. I spent a lot of time with the family as I’d just moved out of home and it was nice to be with a family. The parents would always invite me around and they’d have me run errands with my partner’s little sister and hang out when my partner was working. Then the parents caught my partner cheating on me at her place. They invited me around for dinner one night and when I got there I was like, ‘where’s my partner?’ and they broke the news to me. I was upset, obviously, so they were like, ‘why don’t you take the little sister to the movies on us’. Dated the little sister for a little, but it was a bit weird when we were all together. But, yeah, pretty sure the parents saw it coming and planned it.”

The Cosplay disaster:

“I was casually seeing a cosplayer (first mistake) who was recently out of a serious relationship (second mistake) with another cosplayer. We were dating for a few months and he’d been lovebombing the hell out of me without wanting anything too serious, which I was fine with at the time, until the day of a COSPLAY CONVENTION when I found out, through him literally introducing us and us having chatted for about an hour, that he had been secretly sleeping with a PREVIOUS ex (third mistake) who again, was also a cosplayer (aaaaand fourth).

I found this out the night before the second day of the convention, so we were ALL staying in different rooms of a mutual friend’s house so that they could all get in costume together. And this girl and I were on Facebook chatting about it until 3 am. So the next morning I was frosty as fuck and he could tell (good, suffer bitch) and there was a good few weeks where the girl would message me like, ‘you’re not still with him right?’ under the guise of being a ‘good friend’ but actually because she WAS STILL WITH HIM, convinced that they were twin flames and trying to make sure I wasn’t on the scene anymore.”

Two’s company…

“In the worst decision of my entire life, I cheated on my ex with a friend, who had recently broken up with his own girlfriend. My friend was also casually seeing another girl, fully having two rebounds under his belt – let’s call her Cara. My friend and I ended our situationship when he tried to make it work again with his former girlfriend. Two years later, I found out that my own ex and Cara had gotten together at a party and have been in a happy relationship ever since. My friend and his girlfriend then broke up a second time. How the tables have turned.”

The ultimate backstab:

“I was travelling with my partner of about seven years and we wound up in NZ to settle and work for a little bit. One of the guys we hired ended up becoming a very good friend. When I decided to propose to my partner, we were travelling in a campervan for six months so he held on to the ring for me so that she wouldn’t find it. That’s the level of trust I had in him.

After our engagement, we put a big birthday night out together for our mate’s birthday and about 1am the group gets split up and my fiancé doesn’t come home that night. She calls in the morning to say she got too drunk and crashed out on my friend’s sofa. The next month or so is the worst we’ve had as a couple, I move into the spare room, she is out all day saying she needs time to think, and our friend distances himself from me. Eventually I crack, drag the lad out for a talk, and he confesses to me he’s been sleeping with my fiancé since his birthday. I end it with her, I cut ties with him.  12 months later, they’ve moved back to my hometown, gotten married, and bought the house next door to my longest childhood friend. My childhood friend is getting married next year and I can’t wait to see the pair of them at the wedding.”

When a triangle isn’t enough:

“It was a messy pentagon and I still have no idea how I got sucked into it as a single person and two cheating couples.”

Revenge is sweeter:

“I was dating a guy and he was very insecure and jealous. It ended up with me breaking up with him – he lied and told everyone in my personal and professional circle that I left him for his best friend. So then I did indeed fuck his friend and now we are in love and buying a house together… but no one speaks to us anymore.”

The twin thing:

“There was a time both identical twins had a crush on me and the one who liked me a bit less hooked up with me, rather than his shyer brother who it turns out had a bigger crush on me. Didn’t end up being able to date either of them due to how awkward it was.”
