Microsoft Is Pulling The Plug On MS Paint And People Are Legitimately Devastated

The slow, inexorable crush of time has come for MS Paint, with Microsoft announcing this week that the iconic program’s days are numbered.

On Monday, the company released new details about the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and users were horrified to discover the basic graphics program had been included on the list of features and functionalities marked for removal or depreciation.

Paint will be depreciated, which means it will remain a part of Windows for now, but is “not in active development and might be removed in future release.”

The move comes after Microsoft unveiled Paint 3D in April, and I know what you’re thinking: it’s just not the same.

Following the news, a number of people took to social media to express their grief and give the program the sendoff it deserves.

Not everyone is ready to say goodbye, however, with some people adopting the hashtag #savepaint in an attempt to get Microsoft to reverse its decision.

MS Paint has been a part of the Microsoft suite since Windows 1.0 in 1985. Since then it’s been surpassed by… well, pretty much every other graphics program on the market. Still, I’ll be damned if I don’t pop it open every time I need to save a screenshot, or whenever I feel like drawing a dick on the face of one of my many, many enemies.

Here’s to you, Microsoft Paint. You were kind of shitty, but damn it you were ours.
