From the cursed mind that brought us Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, creator Mike Flanagan is back with a new spooky show: Midnight Mass.

The seven-part series takes place on an isolated island, as a community starts to experience miracles after a mysterious priest arrives. Like many of Flanagan’s shows — such as Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor — the series takes an unflinching look at how people struggle with addiction, faith, guilt, and regret while coming to terms with their own mortality.

The show is already amassing rave reviews. It’s an amazing, yet truly original story, that will leave your jaw on the floor — especially during its shocking conclusion. The acting is impeccable, featuring standout performances by Samantha Sloyan as insidious church leader Bev, Hamish Linklater as the priest, along with Flanagan series regular, Kate Siegel, who plays Erin.

Midnight Mass is depicted as a horror series, but the show is surprisingly heartfelt and emotional. While offering plenty of jump scares and scary moments, the Netflix spookfest also left many viewers emotionally exhausted from its final minutes. It’s a rather grim story, but thankfully, we have very funny memes to make us lol through the pain.
