You’re lying if you say you haven’t sat in front of your hairdresser and asked her to give you a hair colour relative to your favourite beverage.

Don’t even try and deny it. Coca-Cola black, champagne blonde, hot chocolate brown, and even bloody mary red (regrets), are all hairstyle colours that we’ve all known and have flaunted.

However, there’s one beverage trend that’s taking the hairstyle world by storm, and it’s about to become the latest thing to hit Aussie shores this holiday season.

According to Allure, Milk Tea Hair is taking over Asia, and is the perfect colour to compliment the summer season. Kicking off in Japan and Singapore, #MilkTeaHair has blown up all over Instagram, and is named after, yep, that’s right! BUBBLE TEA.

WHAT IS THE COLOUR?

Depending on where you order, Milk Tea hair can mean different things to different people. Picture a half-shaken Brown Sugar Milk Tea from Coco or The Alley – a delectable, creamy beige. The colour is not to warm and not too cool, falling somewhere between the spectrum of light and dark brown.

Colourists around the globe are putting their own unique spins on this delectable look, with some upping the level of richness which would be an extra pump of brown sugar syrup in your drink. Others are going for a more ‘balayage’ look, transitioning from warm and dark on top, to light and milky on the bottom.

HOW TO ACHIEVE?

If you think you can’t achieve Milk Tea hairstyle at home, think again. Colourist Shawn Lee from Ravissant Hair Studio in Singapore told Allure that he achieves the look by starting off with a level 8 from L’Oreal Blond Studio lightener, and follows up by toning with L’Oreal’s Majicontrast in Magenta Red to neutralise the ashy tones.

However, if you’re heading down to Just Cuts with the goal to look like a human Chatime, ask the hairdresser for a colour melt that starts warm-toned at the root, and transitions to ash on the end.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO ROCK IT?

The best time is…NOW! The colour blew up earlier this year in Asia, proving to be the hottest summer accessory. The colour is bright enough for the sunnier days, but still has a subtle, neutral finish for the Christmas period. If you’re looking for a way to make your siblings jealous on Xmas day, trust us, this is the one.
