In Defence Of Mint Choc Chip, The Greatest Ice Cream Flavour

If I had to pick between a Tim Tam and a Mint Slice, you bet I’m heading straight for that mint-choc goodness — and the same goes for ice cream flavours.

It’s time for mint choc chip to have its moment. It’s time that society moves past the mint choc chip ice cream slander and admit that it’s actually the superior flavour. That minty freshness of the ice cream base mixed with the crunch of the chocolate chips truly is the perfect flavour combination.

Honestly, the only reason you would hate the deliciousness of mint choc chip is if you’re under eight years old or you’re afraid of having fresh breath.

So let’s dissect the biggest and most boring complaints.

“It’s Just Edible Toothpaste”

First of all, grow up. Second of all, have you ever brushed your teeth in your life?

There’s nothing more disappointing than someone saying they don’t like mint choc chip ice cream because it “tastes like toothpaste”. At the end of the day, toothpaste tastes like mint. Do you know what else tastes like mint? Gum and candy canes. Are you scared of those, too?

How about mojitos? Do you also not drink those because they taste like toothpaste? Do you happen to dig the mint leaves out of delicious rice paper rolls because of the “toothpaste” taste too? Have you ever requested your cucumber and mint raita to be less toothpaste-y when you go in for an Indian meal? Exactly what I thought. Grow up.

Also if mint choc chip ice cream truly tasted like toothpaste, I’d be eating frozen toothpaste by the tube because it would be way cheaper and way less calorie-dense than ice cream.

“Why Would You Mix Mint With Dessert?”

Why does anyone do anything? I’m sure when someone shoved salt in caramel for the first time people questioned what was going on too, but that doesn’t make it wrong. Same goes for when potato chips started getting mashed up with chocolate ice cream. Dessert is meant to be fun!

Anyway, after a meal, the mint cleanses your palate and you don’t feel as sick as you do after a heavy, rich chocolate cone. Or a caramel concoction that’s far too sweet. Mint choc chip truly is the perfect level of sweet. It leaves the mouth feeling fresh but the stomach feeling satisfied.

“Mint Choc Chip Just Doesn’t Look Natural?”

Do you really think that one of the most sugar-filled desserts on Earth is meant to look right? No!

In this house we stan a neon green ice cream scoop — a ball of frozen deliciousness that looks so adorably cartoonish. If you want something natural, may I suggest you simply don’t go out for dessert and just buy some fruit instead?

Mint choc chip ice cream is one of the most aesthetically pleasing flavours to look at with the bright green base covered in specks of brown. Adorable AND delicious. Plus, I firmly believe that the green just enhances the mint flavour which makes it that much better.

In conclusion, mint choc chip haters please start brushing your teeth before you come for the god of ice cream flavours. And if you really still think your toothpaste taste like mint choc chip ice cream, please send over the brand you use to me STAT… for research purposes.
