Dear M&M’s, Pls Make The Crispy Speckled Easter Eggs A Permanent Treat

Easter is an underrated holiday.

Perhaps, if you grew up Catholic like I did, the thought of Easter haunts you because of how many church ceremonies you had to attend. Yet, as an adult it’s a pretty sweet deal: four days off work, an excuse to eat all the chocolate you want, and it’s normally followed close by the Anzac Day public holiday just in case you weren’t rested enough.

Now, we all know Easter is a time for delicious sweet treats: how many Hot Cross Buns did you put away this jolly Easter season? (Don’t worry I won’t judge.) A few years back, people used to get OUTRAGED that as soon as Christmas ended, Hot Cross Buns were on shelves in grocery stores. These people were wrong to feel this way! Slowly, Hot Cross Buns have become a treat that can basically be enjoyed all year round, or at least, for a good six months. And that’s truly what we all deserve.

This brings me to something very important when it comes to the Easter holiday break: while there are so many delicious chocolate treats available, there’s a particular treat that pops up at Easter only to DISAPPEAR as suddenly as it came.

I am talking about the M&M’s Crispy Speckled Eggs.

Imagine the best M&M’s (crispy, obviously) in a bigger, mini egg form and you’ve got yourself a speckled egg treat. I don’t know what it is about these bad boys that makes them so delectable or taste better than crispy M&M’s ever could, but it’s all in their addictive magic. You don’t question it, you just enjoy it.

These tasty eggs pop up on shelves sometime around Easter, and look, they’re not exactly cheap. I paid $7.50 for a packet once, but that’s just what happens when something delicious is in demand, I guess. As I’ve now learned though the biggest travesty is combing through the grocery aisles on Easter Monday, hunting down the discounted Easter chocolate, and the crispy boys being NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.

NOWHERE.

THEY WERE ALL GONE.

This was particularly devastating to me as someone who had all of their wisdom teeth removed just before Easter and couldn’t indulge in as many M&M’s Crispy Speckled Eggs as I usually would.

Which brings me to beg M&M’s: we need Crispy Speckled Eggs on the market for a little bit longer. I’m not naive in thinking they’d be a year-round treat because some of the special novelty would wear off no doubt. But maybe, at least, have them on shelves until autumn ends.

For the love of God, give us something to look forward to, before winter strikes us down and we all lapse into triggering memories of lockdown and meaningless walks while forgetting life is meant to be “back to normal”.

M&M’S, I AM BEGGING YOU.

And for those who say we should “only consume Easter treats at Easter time”, grow up and have some fun.
