I’m in a never-ending tornado of tears.

Grab the nearest dog (preferably called John) and hold them close, because we have some devastating news: ABC series Please Like Me isn’t coming back. As confirmed this morning across social media by creator and star Josh Thomas, season 4 was the last season of the critically acclaimed dramedy.

It’s not a complete surprise. The series conclusion notably had a sense of finality to it. But, I still clung to the hope they had at least another season in them. Thomas explained the decision:

“Ultimately we decided this[to end the series] because we are really happy with what we’ve made and feel like it is complete,” he said.

Please Like Me has been one of the biggest local success stories. The series gained critical acclaim in both Australia and abroad, and was screened on the now defunct US cable network Pivot before finding a home on streaming platform Hulu.

“This show is so intensely personal, it recreated the most intimate moments of my life and lays them out for anyone to watch. Seeing how people have connected with this show has been tremendously confidence building for me and I’m really grateful for that. Thank you,” Thomas said.

The show’s legacy will live on.

Thank you Josh Thomas, Todd Abbott and the cast and crew of Please Like Me. Thanks for the laughs, the tears and for creating a truly realistic and refreshing Australian story for 20-somethings, the LGBT and those living with mental illness.

Don’t mind me, I’m just going to go have a lie down.
