People Are Genuinely Thirsty For Connell’s Chain In ‘Normal People’

There’s a lot to love about novel-turned-series Normal People, but much of the attention the show’s garnered has been focused on the series’ leading man: shy and handsome Connell.

Throughout the show’s 12-episodes, characters Connell (Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) find it impossible to stay away from each other, as their lives constantly cross paths, starting in their teen years and going into university.

But there’s something particularly magnetic about Connell, aside from being physically beautiful, kind, intelligent, sensitive, oh and Irish. Viewers have noted a delicate chain he wears around his neck in almost every scene, and everyone is hot for it.

There are several scenes which actually zoom in on the chain itself: the necklace is clearly an important part of not just Connell, but Marianne’s attraction to him. “It’s absolutely part of Connell’s identity. If another character wore one, it would be totally jarring. With Connell, it fits like a glove or something,” he told The Cut.

Who would have guessed that a thin string of chain could make me feel some type of way, but there’s something strangely sexy about a man and his chain.

People are genuinely thirsty for Connell’s chain on Normal People:

The chain has even inspired its own Instagram account (@connellschain), which currently has 33k followers. The page is simply dedicated to reposting any shots of Connell seen wearing the chain, and yes, I absolutely follow it.

So where is the chain now? Does Paul still wear it every day?? The actor actually gifted it to his costar Daisy when they finished filming, but, “she lost the fucking chain,” Paul told The Cut. Thankfully, it was eventually found, and Paul suspects Daisy still has it.

Wherever the chain is today, we can all agree that it was Connell (and Paul) who made it so irresistible.

Normal People is available to stream on Stan.
