15 Old School Online Games That Live In My Head Rent-Free
I’m just going to say it: gaming is so addictive. Something about beating high scores or finishing a game’s story is just so satisfying. And even before I was able to afford my own consoles, I had a taste of gaming via the shared family computer!
The internet provided a large catalogue of different games: action, romance, and even some questionable ones. My personal favourite is definitely anything to do with Bratz, My Scene, and Barbie.
Unfortunately, many of these flash games were wiped off the internet due to Adobe shutting down its support for Adobe Flash in 2020. Since then, a lot of these gaming websites have been forced to change their content.
Luckily, some of these games have been saved by other websites that have reposted them in a playable format, allowing teens/adults to relive their childhoods.
So here are a bunch of online games that live in my mind rent-free:
1. Lilo & Stitch: 625 Sandwich Stacker
The Lilo & Stitch Sandwich Stacker consumed a lot of my childhood hours. It was one of the best games on the platform and low-key made me super hungry. You would have to catch all of the yummy ingredients while dodging disgusting ones! It was super fun and easy. You can still play it here.
2. Barbie: Let’s Baby-Sit Baby Krissy
This Barbie game is super adorable. Basically, you would just spend the day looking after this baby and completing a variety of tasks. At the end of it all, you receive a printable certification for ‘babysitting’. I can still hear the baby’s laughs and Barbie telling me what to do in the most obnoxiously positive Barbie voice ever. Experience the nostalgia here.
3. Office Kiss Game
Now this is one of those questionable games. This Japanese game allowed you to play cupid in this small office space. You’d make these two coworkers kiss when the boss wasn’t looking and if he caught you, you were fired. NGL, I did spend hours on this game… it was so weird and intriguing! You can also give this one a whirl here.
4. Love Me! (aka ‘school flirt game’)
Another questionable game but super nostalgic. You would go around the school and use your laser eyes to collect an army of obsessed men. Once your heart was full, you get a small time period where you’re fully charged and go on a love rampage! This game also had a bunch of spin-offs where you would complete the same tasks in different settings.
6. Zombie Burger
Just like your average restaurant game, the player needed to cook the food as quick as you can before your clients get hangry and go for you brains! I just really enjoyed the grossness and freaky design.
7. Kim Possible: Card Clash
This game allows you the option to compete against Kim Possible villains Shego or Drakken. Not going to lie here, I have no idea how this game actually works because I would just constantly click on ‘Deal’. It’s a card game and I never was a card person BUT I have a raging crush on Shego, so I would play this game a lot… you can play here!
8. Bubble Girl (aka Ragdoll Girl)
This one is another questionable game… I swear this game had no end, instead you’d just basically play a flimsy rag doll that fell through a bunch of what I thought were exercise balls. It gave me kind off Happy Wheel vibes without the gore. I also remember someone making an ‘Obama’ version of this.
9. Raft Wars
Raft Wars was one of the more popular games on the original Miniclip website. It followed the story of two brothers who found gold and a bunch of different people trying to snatch it from them — all you gotta do is shoot them and their rafts down.
I loved the story and the plot twist at the end. Muy Bueno!
10. Kim Possible: Bueno Rufus
This game reminds me of the pizza parlour game in Club Penguin, and it’s so much fun just pressing the crazy buttons. Rufus is also my favourite character in the Kim Possible franchise so it was super awesome to have a game based around him.
11. My Scene: Shopping Spree
THIS GAME HAD ME ON A CHOKEHOLD. I loved My Scene so much and although I didn’t own any of the dolls, I loved their games on the original Barbie website. My Scene had makeover, shopping, and decorating games. The Shopping Spree game is fashion focused and you get to dress two of the characters from the My Scene franchise. You also have a variety of shops to choose from, so if you’re super into that, you can still catch this game here.
12. Gold Miner
This game was perfect for those who loved to dig up the school oval for treasure! With this game you could also dig in your downtime and go find some gold. It was always satisfying picking the large nuggets out and helping the old man get his bag. You can still play this golden game here.
13. The Emperor’s Mad Dash
I swear to God, no one remembers this game. But if you loved the Emperor’s New Groove or the Kuzco series, then you’d love this game. It’s your average beat-the-villain-to-the-finish-line vibe, with that new groove flare. You also get to see Kronk and Yzma and their hilariously evil antics throughout the game.
14. Build-A-Bear Makeover
Earlier in the internet days, Build-A-Bear had its own run of games. I remember this one game where you would be chased around by a bear and it was super creepy! Build-A-Bear Makeover is a simple game which kind of follows the same pattern of the Babysit Krissy game by Barbie. It’s super cute and the style reminds me of the old Build-A-Bear stores.
15. Teen Titans: One on One
I don’t know about anyone else but this is a core memory for me. I remember going over to my cousin’s house to use their internet, and their Foxtel, to play and watch Teen Titans.
Teen Titans: One on One was originally on the Cartoon Network website which offered five mini-games to choose from. You can pick from any of the titans to defeat a villain from the franchise, and my go-to gal was Raven. Each hero had different tasks so you wouldn’t get bored from doing the same thing over and over again.
