Organisers of the Falls Music and Arts Festival have confirmed today that the sold out Lorne event has been relocated to Mount Duneed Estate this year due to the threat of bush fires.

The news comes following the recent bush fires that swept through the region on Christmas day, claiming 116 homes in nearby Wye River and Separation Creek.

The Mount Duneed Estate is already set up for a festival, having just wrapped up the 2015 “A Day On The Green” event. The venue is located 15 minutes from Geelong and the Surf Coast and approximately a one hour trip from Melbourne. The news is a huge relief for those that have already embarked on road trips from interstate to make this years Falls Festival event. Here’s a shot of the venue set up (via the Mount Dundeed Estate website):

The Mount Dundeed Estate

Those who have attended the Falls Festival since it was founded in 1994, will be all too familiar with the risk involved with the beautiful secluded location. Surrounded by dense bushland and national park, there’s only one narrow road in and out of the event for punters and emergency services.

With several days of hot weather on the forecast (including 40ºC on New Years Day), punters would be left without a paddle up the proverbial shit creek if things heated up in the already dry parkland.
