OBSESSED: Absolutely Everything We Know About Season Two Of ‘Riverdale’
One of the biggest series of the year that has dominated pop culture conversation is the Archie Comics inspired Netflix series Riverdale. Earlier this month the final episode of Riverdale’s first season aired and as the series has gotten picked up for another season, it left us with a lot of unanswered questions about season 2.
So we’ve gathered up as much information as possible about Riverdale’s second season, including recent interviews with Riverdale’s executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Here’s everything we know so far about season two:
1. Fred Andrews will appear in the first episode
Whether or not he is alive, however, remains to be seen.“You will definitely see Fred in the season premiere of season 2,” Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly.
2. We will see a lot more of Kevin Keller
Hoorah! Casey Cott is being promoted to a series regular.
3. Josie and the Pussycats will get more screentime
Yay! As one of the standouts of the season, the executive producer told E! News:
“We are absolutely going to be seeing more of the Pussycats, especially Josie… part of the deal with making the season all about Jason Blossom is it made us focus on the characters most closely tied to Jason, so the Pussycats weren’t tied to him.
We’re going to have them intricated into the show a bit more because they’re wonderful.”
4. Charles Melton has been cast as the new Reggie
Well, hello there Reggie 2.0…

5. Hiram Lodge will arrive in Riverdale and clash with Archie
The next series will address the well-known feud between Hiram and Archie. In the comics it’s a known fact that Hiram hates Archie, and there will be a triangle created alongside Veronica. D.R.A.M.A.
“Hiram has created a lot of chaos in Riverdale for someone who wasn’t even in Riverdale…Our characters aren’t going to be quite sure what to make of him or what he’s up to. He obviously plays a huge part in the series. One of the classic dynamics from the comic books, which we love to honor and subvert, in a way, and sometimes both, is Hiram-versus-Archi,” Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly.

6. Betty will become darker
It was heavily hinted in season one, but the next season will further engage in Betty’s darker side and what is bubbling under the surface.
“I think a lot of season 1 was Betty trying to control or suppress her dark side or contain her dark side. A lot of season 2 is about her owning it and harnessing it. Without saying too much, the idea of Jughead joining the Serpents is very provocative.
Even more of a Riverdale subversion would be the perfect girl-next-door joining the Serpents, so that’s something we’re going to play with as well!,” he said.
7. A civil war between the north and south side of Riverdale is brewing
The executive producer has teased that Archie will start a war between the rivals.
8. Jughead and Betty’s relationship will take a turn
As Jughead starts getting into dangerous activities, his relationship with Betty will be affected by the Southside Serpents. Aguirra-Sacasa told TV Guide,
“[Betty’s] seeing Jughead take a step further into this gang that his father was a big mover and shaker [in]. I think absolutely that is going to create friction with Betty and with all of the kids. We’ve got a Jughead who is potentially going to a new school, potentially living in a new part of town and potentially joining the Serpents.”
Awww no! Bughead 5EVA…
9. The main mystery in the second season begins with who shot Fred Andrews
While there’s a lot to unpack from the finale, season two will kickstart by addressing the death of Fred Andrews. The executive producer told MTV
“…there are secrets within secrets and motivations behind motivations, so it does expand. But it starts with who shot Fred Andrews?”
10. Jughead will continue to narrate Riverdale
What would Riverdale be without Jughead’s over-dramatic and macabre ramblings?!
11. It’s likely that Betty and Polly’s brother will make an appearance
Well, we knew this was coming. The executive producer told MTV:
“When you do things like mention a secret brother, which is so soapy, I think you have to introduce that character. Hopefully, you can introduce them in the most dramatic, unexpected way, which is what we’re possibly going to do with this guy.”
12. Cheryl and her mum will go head to head
This is not so surprising, as we know all out war is brewing between Cheryl and her mum Penelope. As Aguirre-Sacasa told TV Line:
“[Cheryl’s] liberated herself of all the shackles. For a lot of Season 1, Cheryl was tortured by her parents, really. They were quite cruel to her. I think we’re going to see, after the finale, a big power shift between Cheryl and Penelope. They’re going to be kind of locked in battle — these two very formidable, slightly unbalanced women.”
13. We will see more of Hotdog (Jughead’s dog)
More doggo?! Yes sir.
14. Polly will give birth
Well duh, she’s about to burst. A Blossom baby will be born.
15. Hiram and Hermione will be a power couple
With Hiram out of prison and Hermione already making the chess moves to revive the families business, this seems inevitable.
“With Hiram’s arrival, I’m not really interested in playing Hermione as cowering before Hiram or being terrified of him. What I’m really interested in seeing with Hiram and Hermione is seeing them as a power couple, almost like Frank and Claire Underwood on House of Cards, working together.”
Bonus: A Storyline Will Focus On Ethel Muggs And Her Family
So this is something we don’t actually know – but based on the nugget of information above (15), we’ll take a bet that Ethel Muggs and her family play a larger role in the storyline in S2.
With Hiram financially ruining Ethel’s father and driving him to an attempted suicide, things are likely going to get dramatic as the Lodge empire rises. No doubt this family drama will playout in the school yard.
