You don’t mess with perfection people, a lesson the folks at ABC network in the U.S are quickly learning. Earlier this week, the channel aired a TV reimagining of Dirty Dancing and Twitter users have their pitchforks ready for an uprising.

It was bad. And when I say bad, I mean fucking terrible.

The cinematic blasphemy took the form of a three-hour TV special and starring Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes in the leading roles, alongside Sarah Hyland, Debra Messing and Nicole Scherzinger. Messing told PEOPLE Magazine re: the remake,

“This isn’t a replica of the original. This takes some liberties. It has the DNA of the original, but you are going to find out what happened to Baby and Johnny after that summer ended. So there’s some additional surprises in there that are new.”

Not only did they muck around with the story, a large slab of the criticism was that the movie cast actors that can’t actually dance. Whoops! With leads Breslin and Prattes not coming close to filling the iconic shoes of the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. It was just weird AF casting.

The TV movie was pretty much universally hated and Twitter got SAVAGE.

Here are some of Twitter’s funniest reactions:
