In Moments Of Sadness, It Helps To Think About The Time A Dog Ate Dan’s Heart Transplant On ‘One Tree Hill’

One Tree Hill was an iconic teen show in the ’00s and I won’t hear a bad word about it, unless you’re here to bag out Lucas Scott which I am all about.

They just don’t make shows like this anymore. Forget The O.C. and Gossip GirlOne Tree Hill was superior to them both and I will stand by that.

While we’re all in the middle of a global pandemic it’s important to find small wins and joys in life, like rewatching old shows or simply just remembering the time a dog ate Dan’s heart transplant on One Tree Hill.

This will forever go down as one of the most hilariously awful moments on any teen drama show. It may actually be the perfect scene.

Dan (arguably one of the best teen show villains we’ve seen) was awaiting a heart transplant and when his lucky day finally arrived, the person transporting the heart tripped over a dog lead, causing the heart to fall out straight onto the hospital floor, where the dog promptly picked it up and slobbered all over it.

Every time I watch it, it gives me an unbridled sense of joy, even in the darkest of timelines. IT MAKES NO SENSE! AND THAT MAKES IT SO FUNNY!

Watch it and weep (with laughter) below:

It does pose a lot of questions, such as:

1. Why was the heart just being transported so casually in a styrofoam box?
2. Are dogs even allowed IN the hospital?
3. Why was Dan just idly chilling nearby, waiting for his heart in what looked like the foyer of the hospital?
4. WHERE WERE ALL THE DOCTORS?
5. Is Lucas shocked or trying not to laugh? I mean he looked like that for most of the series, so it’s hard to say.
6. What does that LOOK between Lucas and Dan mean? Did Lucas plant the dog there to do exactly this?
7. Where did the dog run off to? Again, is it really OK for a dog to be let loose in a hospital?

Good god, this was all so baffling, but One Tree Hill writers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this perfect TV show moment.
