“There’s a bear in there, a chair as well, there are people with games and stories to tell…”

Play School is making an admirable effort to showcase more diversity on the ABC children’s TV program by putting a casting call out to kids with two dads.

Not only that, they’re also seeking ‘an adopted family, an extended family, a blended family, an Indigenous nuclear family’ for its ‘through the windows’ segment.

According the Guardian Australia, Play School is scouting for five to seven year olds to explore the different types of families in Australian society.

“We’re really excited about the ‘My Family, Your Family’ segments,” Play School executive producer Jan Stradling told The Guardian Australia.

“The idea is to reflect current Australian society by showing a range of family structures and backgrounds. In these stories, we explore the relationships and bonds of a family. We will look at how they care for one another and share experiences, roles and responsibilities.

“Play School aims to reflect the diversity of Australian children, embracing all manner of race, religions and family situations.”

The long-running kids’ program (now in its 50th year) was slammed in 2004 for running an episode featuring a child with two mums just days after the Federal Government decided to ban same-sex couples from marrying or adopting children.

The program was dubbed “Gay School” and slammed by our backwards government officials including John Howard and ol’ mate, Tony Abbott. The ABC responded by basically telling those homophobes to piss off.

Hooray for equality. Bravo, ABC ???????????
