I Was Feeling Frivolous… So I Bought These 5 Things

Six times a year I get an itch. Not the kind that I need to skip to the doctor for, but one that has me craving a bit of a spend. To indulge in a little (or extremely large) treat for myself and my wardrobe. I am in the thick of an itch right now, and so to justify the dollars I’ve just dropped, I need to share my spendings with you.

Here’s what I’ve bought this week, and why, in no particular order because that would be far too organised.

A quilted jacket.

I live in Sydney, so I don’t require proper layers to get me through winter, but I needed this. You see, any item of clothing that shares characteristics with a bed is an automatic bestie of mine, and a quilted jacket is essentially a duvet with arms – so I’ll be having one, please!

My colour palette usually lurks within the pastel space, but something about these cute red poppies paired with the white cord lining spoke to me. I’m planning on pairing this with a white tee and jeans that don’t crush my uterus.

A pair of jeans that don’t crush my uterus.

I was seeking a loose pair of jeans as my current denim options have been absolute no-goes during that time of the month when my womb is trying to bust out of my body. My criteria were faded blue hues, slouchy fit in the stomach, baggy fit on the leg and long enough to touch the floor but not get grubby.

As jean shopping is usually a horrific pastime involving copious amounts of insecurities bubbling up, I decided to go somewhere I know won’t do me dirty: Cotton On. I tried on a few pairs before meeting the new love of my life, the Relaxed Wide Jean.

These are the perfect sloppy fit but with no distressed details so they feel just fancy enough for work events too. I have lived in these ever since I bought them and even found myself chilling in them at when I got home at night – whereas before I would barely get in the front door before whipping my keks off and slipping into a pair of trackies.

A silly little ballet flat.

I’ll admit, I was sceptical when pumps came back into fashion. I remember my early dalliances with ballet flats and the main word I would use to describe them is… stinky. But one too many adorable street-style shots of fashion girlies skipping about in ballet pumps pushed me over the edge and I bought this pair from The Iconic.

I wanted them to look like a pair of legit ballet pumps stolen from the hoofs of a ballerina, and I personally think these nailed the brief.

I’ve been pairing them with my long loose jeans or with a floaty dress and bare legs when it’s not freezing cold. My only word of warning with these is that they are naff in the rain – don’t even bother wearing them if there’s even a chance of a sprinkle.

A puffy bag.

These Olend bags have been stalking me. I must have uttered the word ‘puffy bag’ around my phone at one point and the Meta overlords haven’t stopped pestering me ever since. I’ve watched every unpacking video, seen it draped over every Scandi influencer and could probably name every single colourway.

I’ve developed such a strong parasocial relationship with this bag, that it would have been rude if I didn’t buy it. In case you were wondering, I went with the Light Blue shade of the Soft Ona Bag and I can’t wait for it to arrive.

It’ll fit my chonky work laptop, my emotional support water bottle and a million snacks so I know it’s going to become my everyday grab-and-go bag.

The Soft Ona Bag from Olend is $158, but you can get 10% off if you’re a first-time buyer. Have a gander here if you’re curious.

A hard case for my Macbook Pro.

My aforementioned chonky work laptop is over getting bashed around. I take it with me everywhere and often chuck it in my handbag, on the backseat of the car or just shove it under my armpit while I walk to a meeting. How I haven’t scratched, chipped or just completely murdered it so far is a miracle.

But I’m not taking any more chances with it. So I invested in a hard shell for it from eBay.

I wanted something matte and in my absolute favourite colour: Yellow. The shade that arrived is a little more muted than in the online pic, but I’m warming to it and have accidentally coordinated with it already.
