It doesn’t matter where in Australia you lived but the same ten fashion brands likely influenced how you dressed as a teen.

If you never rocked a low-rise Roxy denim mini skirt or Billabong board shorts, did you even go to high school?

Before we knew what online shopping even was, there were a small collection of go-to fashion outlets for Aussie teens.

These are how our fave Aussie clothing stores stacked up in perceived coolness:

#10. Kmart

It’s safe to say Kmart has upped their fashion game lately, but in high school you wouldn’t be caught dead reppin’ Kmart clothes.

#9. Target

While marginally more fashionable than Kmart, Target still will always be the brand that ya mum wears.

#8. Glassons

While they’ve recently rebranded, back in the day Glassons was conservative and, tbh, a bit boring.

#7. Cotton On

Like Glassons, Cotton On has since upped their fashion game but back in high school they were known as the store to buy the same item in ten different colours. Sorry but ya basic.

#6. Sportsgirl

Sportsgirl has always been there serving killer looks but it’s pretty much only for rich teens. A girl could dream, tho.

#5. Sports Stores

All the cool kids got around in the same uniform which usually comprised of Adidas pants with the three stripes, Nike hoodies and Fila sneakers.

#4. Jay Jays

Jay Jays will always be the cool brand your older sister wore when she went to 16+ gigs, and whose pinafore dress permanently lives in your wardrobe.

#3. Skate Brands

Only slightly less cool than our number two ranking, I still find walking into General Pants Co. a daunting experience where I immediately feel like I don’t belong for lack of coolness.

#2. Surf Shops

I still can’t make sense of it, but going to school in anything scribed with a Roxy, Billabong or Rip Curl logo somehow boosted your street cred up tenfold.

#1. Supré

There is no science that can explain it but wearing Supré in high school was just the most fashionable thing ever. Can you believe Supré invented wearing skirts with leggings? Iconic.
