We Decided To Rank All Ya Fave Garlic Breads In The Name Of Science

Tell us you love Punkee without telling us you love Punkee. Sign up to our newsletter, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. It'll mean the world.

If you know what’s up, then you’ll know that there are only three things that hold the universe together: gravity, dark matter and garlic bread.

There is no food greater than garlic bread and I don’t need any kind of scientific formula to convince anyone of this indisputable fact.

GARLIC BREAD IS THE BEST.

But what I am here to prove, is that not all garlic bread is created equal. Some breads are much better than others.

So I decided to grab all of your fave g-breads to compare, with a scoring system based on crunch, flavour and value. I ate an entire meal of garlic bread. I did it for science and you are very welcome.

Here is my dinner. Pray for me.

(L to R) Homebrand, Pizza Hut, La Famiglia, Domino’s and Coles.

Oh boy, did I eat a lot of bread.

Here we go!

We’ve ranked all ya fave garlic breads, because SCIENCE:

5th Place

Woolies Homebrand

Price: $1.90

Biggest pros: It’s cheap, like really cheap.

Biggest cons: It tastes bad. To be specific, the garlic tastes v artificial and the flavour is unpleasant. The butter didn’t even melt properly.

Also while it’s cheap and you get two in a pack, each loaf only has 8 slices. And the loaves are super small.

The bread doesn’t get crispy either, instead, it stays soft and spongey while tasting like it’s filled with some kind of sweetener.

Not good g-bread. Would not eat again.

4th Place

Domino’s

Price: $4.20

Biggest pros: It looked good and was nicely cooked.

Biggest cons: It’s pretty expensive for such a tiny loaf of only 8 slices.

Even though it appeared well cooked, once I bit into it I found it wasn’t crunchy at all and the bread was soggy, greasy and overly chewy. Flavour was okay but not great, and the bread tasted too sweet.

3rd Place

Pizza Hut

Price: $3.95

Biggest pros: The taste of the garlic butter was actually nice. It reminded me of the ol’ school garlic bread you’d get down at ya local pizza shop.

Biggest cons: It wasn’t crunchy and when it was delivered it was smooshed down and pale in colour. Like Domino’s, it was pretty expensive for a mere 8 slices of bread.

2nd Place

La Famiglia

Price: $4.00

Biggest pros: This will be forever known as the ‘fancy garlic bread’ and for good reason: because it’s split horizontally rather than vertically, and it is delightfully crunchy.

The flavour is great and tastes as authentic as you could get in pre-packaged bread.

Biggest cons: La Famiglia is a bit more expensive than the other breads but, on the flip-side, it’s much bigger and serves more people so I ain’t complaining.

1st Place

Coles

Price: $1.90

Biggest pros: The underdog comes out on top. This is soo damn delish. It’s actually out of this world. Crunchy on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. This g-bread is the dream.

And it’s just so damn cheap, considering you get two very long loaves, with 10 pieces in each. While it’s the same price as Woolies, it is on another level when it comes to flavour and crunch.

Biggest cons: I WANT MORE. I don’t want the eating experience to ever end.

This garlic bread is THE SHIT. Coles is doing the Lord’s work.

Well, there you go.

I’m going to go throw up now.
