Rebecca Black

Rebecca Black Started A Generation Of Viral Musicians, So Where Are They All Now?

It’s been a whole decade since Rebecca Black released ‘Friday’. Can you even believe it?

10 whole YEARS since a teenager broke the Internet and inspired an entire generation to chase viral fame alongside music.

And on the very important anniversary of this viral track, I thought I would do the very important research of where these viral singers are now. You know… so you don’t have to.

Rebecca Black

The queen of virality herself, Rebecca Black is actually doing very well for herself. She celebrated a decade since ‘Friday’ with the release of a hyperpop-influenced remix which features Dorian Electra, Big Freedia, & 3OH!3. I mean… No one could have seen this coming.

While she hasn’t seen the success (if you can call it that) of ‘Friday’ again, she is still quite relevant on social media. She has over a million Instagram followers and over 700k followers on TikTok.

MattyBRaps

If you ever wanted to feel old, MattyBRaps is now 18. MattyBRaps has had such a crazy career, he almost doesn’t belong on this list. The man has been consistently putting out music since he started his career in 2010, racking up a billion views in 2014, which has now equated to 2 billion views as of this year. And yes, he’s still going, raking in at least a few hundred thousand views per song. Sure, he’s not the most acclaimed musician in history, but hey – nothing’s stopping him from becoming the next Shawn Mendes…

Jenna Rose

Whether you know her as the singer behind ‘My Jeans’, ‘OMG’, or her cover of ‘Fancy’ that went viral on TikTok last year, Jenna Rose has come across your laptop at some point in the last 10 years. Since her initial viral video, she hasn’t really stayed relevant amongst Internet users. She does run a YouTube channel, where she reacts to her old videos, but even that has fewer subscribers than another ‘Jenna Rose’ on the platform.

Alison Gold

Oh my God, not this racist shit. You may remember her song ‘Chinese Food’ as the racist take on all these viral child stars. And let’s just say, her career didn’t go far after that. After releasing the hypersexual ‘Shush Up’, the Alison Gold persona rightfully disappeared from the Internet and now, Alison is just living her life.

Double Take

If you haven’t walked around with “hot girls, we have problems too, we’re just like you… except we’re hot” in your head, you haven’t lived. This song was low-key a bop. Without ‘Hot Problems’ we wouldn’t have gotten ‘SELFIE’ by The Chainsmokers and without that song, that DJ duo would be nowhere. As for ‘Double Take’, they really haven’t gone anywhere. They released ‘Like a Princess’ and ‘The Stalking Song’ but both, as you can guess, flopped.
