The trailer for Riverdale season two dropped over the weekend and things are looking every bit as dark as they promised.

Season one spoilers ahead

Riverdale’s season one finale really nailed the meaning of ‘cliffhanger’. Fred Andrews being shot blindsided everyone and left us devastated and kinda like ????? So many questions. Now, the season two trailer shows things are only going to get darker.

The trailer opens right where we left off, with a gunshot. Then our Riverdale narrator, Jughead Jones, introduces us into the grisly new world of season two:

“People will look back at this as the exact moment that last bit of Riverdale’s innocence finally died.”

First up, we see our clean cut quarterback Archie Andrews dragging his dad into the hospital covered in blood. Shitttt. Archie blood-drenched and shook is a more gruesome sight than we were prepared for and we still don’t know if Fred is going to be ok!?! 1 like = 1 prayer.

The whole gang comes to the hospital for a group hug and then in true Archie style he seems to be holding back the whole truth of what he saw for reasons yet to be explained. When Jughead confronts Archie about his “lack of a poker face” indicating he’s not sharing the whole story, the tension is so thick you can feel it in your bones. Just being speculative here but is Jughead’s new status as a Southside Serpent potentially making Archie hesitant to share? Who knows. Yet.

Archie’s shadiness could be because he’s got real fear that the shooter will come back to kill the witnesses. Fair enough, I would be pretty fucking freaked too. Archie is no longer living in a world of faux-stress where playing guitar AND football is his biggest problem. He’s well and truly entered into a living nightmare and the fear is real for all of us.

The question haunting Riverdale next season looks like it’s going to be ‘who was this mystery shooter’. The gang is trying to figure out why this would have happened and Jughead’s dark take is the bleak suggestion that:

“It’s entirely conceivable this was a hit.”

Pop Tate is super shook and  gets supernaturally morbid about the situation:

And then we have Cheryl and honestly I have no fucking clue what is going on here but it’s not looking good for Momma Blossom over there in the bandages. Very keen for these Cheryl shenanigans.
