WATCH: There’s A New Rubik’s Cube World Record And If You Blink, You’ll Miss It
I’ve never completed a Rubik’s Cube (without cheating) and I’m amazed that the famous puzzle can actually be completed, let alone in under 5 seconds.
Patrick Ponce, a 15 year old from the United States has managed to wipe .05 seconds off the previous record, set by Aussie champion Feliks Zemdeg in December last year. Ponce managed to get all the coloured squares on the 3x3x3 cube correctly matched up in 4.69 seconds with only 17 moves. Any faster and it’s likely the damn thing would have exploded in his hands.
Pressure is now on our Aussie ‘athlete’, Feliks to break through and take the title back. Not to worry, he’s set the 3x3x3 WR seven times in the past, and still holds seven other titles including the ‘3x3x3 One Handed Single’, ‘4x4x4 Single’ and the 7x7x7 cube records. As you do…
Patrick’s amazing effort was all recorded and uploaded by the cube master himself with the humble caption “Hey that’s pretty good”.
In the clip below, applause irrupts as Patrick finishes the cube with someone yelling
“Oh my god! Oh my god!” – “Feliks is number two now! Oh my gosh.”
Good luck to the hands and fingers of Feliks, or anyone else for that matter, who attempts to top these mean speeds. Check out ol’ speedy fingers Ponce in the clip below.
