Ryan Adams Thinks Taylor Swift Is Basically Shakespeare, Is Dead Set Serious
Shakespeare might arguably be the most celebrated figure in the history of literature, but according to Ryan Adams, Taylor Swift is up there in the same category of genius.

Having released a tribute cover album of Lord-Tay’s ‘1989’ (which is a deadset contender for a Grammy), Adam’s told The Guardian that covering Swift was like “being in Ghostbusters or something, and then all of a sudden I have to go do Shakespeare.”
The interviewer jumped in, pointing out that Shakespeare might be a bit of an “overgenerous analogy,” to which Adams replied, “Well, look, those songs are popular for a reason. She’s a popular artist for a reason.”
Although the same logic could be applied to Bieber or One Direction who are currently charting above Taylor in the charts with more popular songs, he may have a point. Swift has been nominated for a mind-boggling 479 awards, including 22 Grammy’s. Plus, her bad-ass squad is incomparable to any wannabe artistic genius before her. In ya face Willy Shakes.
40 year old, Adams, who is backed with 15 studio albums, spoke of his insane levels of respect for the Tay. He explained how Swift ‘penetrates through my regular consciousness’ while explaining how he came to fall for her tracks while listening to ‘White Horse’ for the first time.
“I remember feeling shocked by her voice, shocked at how clean that song was. Like stuff that sort of penetrates through my regular consciousness and hits me where I’m not looking. That’s usually stuff that’s a little darker.”
Deep stuff Adams, deep.
