Here’s What Is Allegedly Happening To Samantha In The ‘Sex And The City’ Reboot
Sex And The City‘s reboot series And Just Like That is due to hit our screens in December and while fans are excited to see Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte back living their best lives, the absence of Samantha leaves a pretty big hole.
Rumours swirled for a while that the iconic Samantha Jones would be killed off, but thankfully that doesn’t appear to be the case. Sources are saying production is hoping actor Kim Cattrall who plays Samantha will return for Season 2 of And Just Like That... so yes, it does appear a second series will be coming!
According to the Daily Mail, Samantha’s absence from the series is going to mirror real life – in that, it’ll be told Samantha and Carrie had a falling out and haven’t been on speaking terms.
Rumours have persisted over the years that Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker were never the best of friends, with Cattrall citing in 2004 that money was a reason behind the show ending. “I felt after six years it was time for all of us to participate in the financial windfall of Sex and the City,” she said at the time. The rumours followed both Cattrall and Parker into the filming of the movies, with Cattrall still allegedly not happy with Parker being paid more.
As the years have gone on, both Parker and Cattrall have said favourable things about each other to the press, with Parker saying in 2016 on Howard Stern: “Was every day perfect? No, but this is a family of people who needed each other. This sort of narrative, this ongoing catfight…it used to really confound me and really upset me.”
Cattrall later declined to do the third Sex and The City movie and, well, here we are today!
But back to And Just Like That: fans will learn that Carrie and Samantha had a falling out after Carrie fired Samantha as her publicist. But apparently, as the 10-episode series goes on we’ll see Carrie misses Samantha and wants to repair the relationship.
According to the Daily Mail, a source had this to say:
“We’ll announce eventually that the show will have a second season. This isn’t a one-off, this will be a series. It will be quite a while between the first and second series as Sarah Jessica Parker has a busy schedule and we have a lot of work to do to get Kim Cattrall back.
We all miss Kim and we hope she comes back for the second season – the door will never close on her, she is an important part of the franchise.”
Fingers crossed this works out because Sex and The City without Samantha and her iconic antics is just simply not the same.
