As the federal election kicks into overdrive (5 days to go people!) parties are doing everything and anything to grab the attention of voters. That is exactly what the Australian Sex Party has done, with an election ad that is well, controversial… to say the least.

The video presents a satire of the song ‘The Candyman Can’ from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but is instead called #VaticanCan.

The ad throws a helleva lot of shade at religious institutions, specifically the Catholic Church, and their meddling in government policy decisions such as same-sex marriage and being exempt from paying taxes.

It also goes on to crack jokes alluding to closeted pedophilia within the Vatican and even has a bloodied Jesus up on a crucifix. Yep, it’s a lot to take in and has expectantly received a fair amount of hate – but a lot of support as well.
