The Plot Twist In This Bonkers J-Lo Movie Trailer Has To Be Seen To Be Believed
It’s rare that any rom-com trailer surprises me. As a genre, the movies and trailers are typically formulaic, often relying on and replicating the same story arcs and tropes. But oh boy, this was not the case with Jennifer Lopez’s latest movie.
Shotgun Wedding seems like any old rom-com in the beginning. Lopez stars alongside Josh Duhamel as two lovebirds — Darcy and Tom — who are about to jet off for their destination wedding. Ahead of their looming nuptials, the couple is dealing with the typical issues most engaged couples face, like family dramas and a meddling mother-in-law (played by literal icon, Jennifer Coolidge).
However, this is where any relatability ends.
I won’t spoil the surprise, so please watch the Shotgun Wedding trailer below and prepare for a major vibe shift around the 50-second mark.
The way this feels like a fake movie inside another movie but it’s actually a real movie.
At first, this movie just looks like any other J-Lo wedding yarn, like The Wedding Planner meets Monster-In-Law. But then suddenly, a man is getting stabbed in the back — literally, not figuratively.
From here, things escalate! The wedding party are taken as hostages and Darcy and Tom have to figure out how to save themselves, and their wedding guests.
OH AND JENNIFER COOLIDGE HAS A GUN.
People on Twitter are stunned by the plot twist in this movie. Editor Alex Zalben joked that the trailer takes an “absolutely bonkers turn” and they’re not wrong.
Another Twitter user added, “This trailer went through like three different genres in the first minute.”
The way I went from "why are they doing this movie?" to screaming with laughter… This might be my favorite trailer twist since the Tom Holland/Will Smith secret agent pigeon movie.

Whether Shotgun Wedding is a rom-com or some kind of spy/espionage/murder movie, I’m bloody intrigued. And any movie with Jennifer Coolidge cast as a deranged mother-in-law is a film I can get behind.
I’ve gone from not even knowing this movie existed to scheduling my entire life around watching it. I’m obsessed.
