If you ask any politician these days, the Australian economy is going down the gurgler. However, we might be close to a solution thanks to the weird and wonderful internet.

A fairdunkum, true-blue, Aussie legend (and Simpsons fan) has created a petition to name the Australian currency the “Australian Dollarydoo”.

Someone take this to the Prime Minister!

Citing plummeting commodity prices and the struggling Australian economy, the petition claims that people will “want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency.”

“If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible.” The anonymous petition creator states.

The “Dollarydoos” reference comes from the infamous Simpsons episode that introduces us to numerous false Aussie references, including ‘Knifey-Spooney’ and mistaking every possible drink for B-E-E-R.

With a target of 7,500 signatures, the petition needs less than 700 more signatures until it can be submitted. You can sign the petition here.
