After 12 months of teasing, fanfare and unparalleled anticipation, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has finally made its cinema debut across 12 countries. Not only that, it has blasted its way to No.1 in each nation, cashing in a whopping $14.1M dollars on the first day at the box office ahead of the opening weekend.

Walt Disney Pictures reports that The Force Awakens now ranks as the biggest Star Wars opening ever in all markets, with some sources stating that it’s the largest IMAX opening of all time.

Besides the US, the film has soared its way to the top position in Australia as well as Japan, the UK, Germany, France and Italy where it recorded huge numbers. It still hasn’t made its debut in China, India and Greece, so expect the numbers to grow.

All the experts in this sort of thing are expecting the movie to fetch somewhere around $250M – $315M in the USA domestic opening and it could possibly top Jurassic World‘s international debut record of $524.9M. We’ll just call it from here, we reckon this has the makings of a record breaker. Here’s what it’s up against…

Editors note – the gallery below has been updated with international opening figures. We had previously reported on USA domestic results.
