Steve Irwin Is Finally Getting The Hollywood Star He Deserves After Nom From Russel Crowe
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is adding our Aussie legend and ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin to its line up and it’s about time!
Irwin, who passed away in 2006 from a fatal stingray encounter while filming, will be commemorated with his own Hollywood Star next month and he’ll be the 2,635th person to receive the honour.
Excuse me, there’s something in my eye.
The ceremony will be held the morning on 26 April, with Terri, Bindi and Bob Irwin have confirmed to Channel 9 that they’ll absolutely be there for the ceremony. Talking to Channel 9’s Today, Terri Irwin said:
“It’s such an incredible honour I have to tell you it’s something I wasn’t sure would ever really happen.” “There’s not a slew of conservationists on the walk of fame so he would have thought that was pretty special.” She added.
And she’s absolutely right. It’s incredibly special and we are all very here for honouring Steve and his lifetime dedication to wildlife conservation. It turns out it was actually Russel Crowe who wrote a letter of recommendation to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, nominating Steve Irwin for a spot on the boulevard.
To get a spot on the Walk of Fame you actually need a formal letter of recommendation from a third party, which is why it takes a while for a lot of worthy celebs to snag a spot.
Once the nomination is accepted, the ceremony costs USD $30 grand to go towards maintenance of the Walk. Terri Irwin thanked the tourism agency Visit Sunshine Coast for contributing to their Star funds.
Apparently there will be some Aussie animals (who are currently LA locals) at the ceremony in honour of Irwin’s passion for Australian wildlife.
Steve Irwin was a true Aussie legend and his legacy will never be forgotten <3
If you’re going to Hollywood and want to check out Steve Irwin’s Star, it will be in front of the Iguana Vintage Clothing Shop on the Hollywood Boulevard.
