The Sydney Opera House Has Become A Billboard & The Twitter Memes Are Hilarious
ICYMI, the UNESCO world heritage-listed architectural masterpiece called the Sydney Opera House is being forced to display ads from Racing NSW.
The TL;DR is that Racing NSW applied to use projections on the side of the Opera House, but was knocked back by the CEO, Louise Herron, who reckons it’d be a breach in policy against the commercialisation of the World Heritage landmark.
Then, radio broadcaster Alan Jones had a massive cry on air. Jones interviewed yelled at Herron, told her she should be sacked, and angrily let her know, “you don’t own the Opera House. We own it.”
Aaaaanyway. The NSW Government has since stepped in, directing the Opera House to display an image of the Everest Cup trophy, the numbers of the horses, and the colours of the jockeys.
It’s all a bit of a shit-fire for a number of reasons, and if we’ve learned anything ever, it’s that Twitter loves a shit-fire.
