Sydney Sweeney Has Questions About A Sacred Aussie Tradition

Sydney Sweeney is currently doing a press tour to promote her new rom-com with Glen Powell, so we’ve been blessed with incredible red-carpet looks and interviews. But as the actress spent a chunk of time in Australia shooting this movie,  Anyone But You, and Eden in Queensland,  she’s been revealing some interesting tidbits about her life down under.

On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she introduced American fans to the sacred Aussie tradition that is Schoolies. When the host asked Sydney to share “any Australian slang” she’d picked up, she had some thoughts about the high school tradition.

“While I’ve been there, they had this thing called ‘the Schoolies’, and it’s when the high schoolers graduate and they go and have their big huge spring break party,” she explained. “They shut down all the streets and the Schoolies go out, and then the ‘toolies’ go out too, and those are anybody that is older than 21. And they put wristbands on them to know that there are tools trying to pick up younger kids.”

The Euphoria star then told Jimmy about “foolies”, explaining that younger high schoolers who haven’t yet graduated are made to wear a different coloured wristband.

“They’re called the ‘foolies’. When they aren’t old enough to be messing around… they’re fools,” she said.

While Sydney seemed to love poking fun at Schoolies, she did redeem herself at the end. When Jimmy said Aussies are “the best”, Sydney agreed with him, saying she “loves” Australia.

Sydney Sweeney’s surprise Aussie plan.

During an appearance on Smallzy’s Surgery, Sydney told the hosts that she’s seriously looking to buy a property in Australia. Her co-star Glen Powell said that Sydney is “obsessed with Australia”, which is a little bit cute.

“I love [Australia],” Sydney said. “I’ve downloaded multiple real estate apps to look into [moving] to Australia. I love it there.”

Glen confirmed that Sydney wasn’t joking, adding: “I put money on it that Sydney will have a house there by the end of the year.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised,” Sydney agreed.

Anyone But You hits cinemas in Australia on 26 December, 2023 and it’s a grand way to finish off all your Chrissie celebrations: with a classic fake-dating rom-com. I, personally, cannot WAIT.
