Tasmanian Blokes Went Fishing, Caught A Wombat And Saved His Life

With record high temperatures around the country this Spring, it’s understandable that everyone is going to great lengths to keep cool… Including the Aussie wildlife.

One adventurous wombat hit a spot of bother when he went for a dip in Woods Lake, central Tasmania over the weekend.

Drifting around 250m offshore, the distressed wombat was fortunately sighted by two blokes who were on the lake, fishing for trout.

Craig Wilson and his stepfather Bob Wilton originally mistook the animal as a platypus but quickly realised it was that of a land-based wombat on closer inspection. Wilson explained to The Advocate:

“The wombat was trying to stay afloat above the water … he was definitely struggling,”

Fishing it out of the water with a net, the wombat tried to resist until he ran out of energy and could be safely captured.

Fortunately for all involved, the wombat was safely rescued and returned to dry land and the fisherman managed to snap some pics to prove that it wasn’t just an elaborate story.

Without doubt, this topped any trout for catch of the day.
