They say everything’s bigger in Texas and a group of impassioned UT Austin students have taken the sentiment to heart in light of the states upgraded new gun laws.

The aptly named “Campus (DILDO) Carry’’ Facebook campaign urges UT students to join the movement and “strap on gigantic swinging dildos’’ to their backpacks when Senate Bill 11 comes into effect on the first day of next Fall semester.

The bill, which has already been signed by State Governor Greg Abbott, will allow both students and faculty of any public Texan university to carry a concealed handgun while on it’s grounds and also acts as a win for those on those wanting an increased presence of guns in public.

Pro-campus carry activists have argued on the events page that the legislation will allow people to defend themselves in the event of a live shooting with student Jesse Nemeth asking

‘’is a dildo going to protect you from the next crazed, unbalanced democrat to shoot up your campus?’’

The legislation, which comes in the wake of recent college mass shootings in Arizona and Oregon has inspired the tongue in cheek movement. The initiative aims to make people question whether allowing young adults to arm themselves in the classroom is really the answer to America’s well-documented gun debate.

Group founder and UT student Jessica Jin created the #cocksnotglocks campaign on the same day as one student was killed and another injured at Texas Southern University questioned conservative attitudes by informing them ‘’you’re carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO.”Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 5.34.53 pm

“It’s just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play.”

She added.

No matter whether the almost 4,000 attendees vowing to stand up against their peers’ desire to put the US’ Second Amendment in practice will don a dildo in hope of minimising gun culture, Jin’s ambition for her cause has got to be commended.

“Anybody can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas,” she wrote on the group’s page. “Come one dildo, come all dildos’’.
