‘The Bachelor’ Mean Girls Are Sorry, But Also Not THAT Sorry
Last night’s episode of The Bachelor saw four girls exit the house… which meant we had to say farewell to the ‘Mean Girls’ trio, Cat, Romy and Alisha.
With Cat being abruptly sent home by the Honey Badger, Alisha being left roseless and Romy choosing to reject her rose, last night’s episode wasn’t short of drama.
During their time in the house, the trio were dubbed the ‘Mean Girls’ by former contestants and fans of the show. Each episode, we saw them deliver scathing commentary about the other ladies in the house and witnessed dramatic cocktail parties, including one fight between Romy and Tenille that ended with Tenille fleeing the house.
Punkee sat down with all three girls to figure out what was editing, what was deliberate and whether they have any regrets.
On watching their storylines back:
Cat: “It’s been pretty full on watching it back, there’s a lot of things I’ve done that I’m not particularly proud of. We were playing a part but you do get caught up when you’re in there to be honest, put 25 chicks in a house together and you’re all going to go batshit crazy.”
Romy: “People have to understand they’re just seeing a slice, but in saying that, there are moments watching it where you don’t feel great about what you’re seeing. I was starting conversations people didn’t want to have when the cameras were there, but they were happy to have them when the cameras were off. That was infuriating for me.”
On when they realised they’d be ‘playing’ the villains:
Cat: “By day two I knew! Then you kind of play up to it. In this show you’re not going to see every side of every person, we’re playing characters. You’re not going to see me have a good yarn with one of the girls because if I look like I’m nice then it doesn’t fit in with my storyline.”
Alisha: “Who wouldn’t want to be like Brooke and beloved by all of Australia? But the fact of the matter was two days in I was like, ‘this isn’t gonna happen with old mate’.”
Romy: “It would be so nice to be loved by Australia rather than be despised, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbled for us and we knew what we signed up for.”
Cat: “I mean I’d rather be a villain than Kayla who jumped in the pool.”
Alisha: “No somedays I wish I was Kayla! Reading the Instagram comments I’m like ‘maybe I should’ve just jumped in the pool!'”
On whether they have regrets:
Cat: “We do apologise for offending people. It wasn’t our intention to actually be malicious, there’s a lot more to us but also… it’s a reality show. It’s not a documentary.”
Alisha: “The fact of the matter is, people love drama. There isn’t much room for complex narratives in reality TV, people are looking for the particular characters. You’ve got us as the villains, you’ve got Cass as the crazy stalker, same as Jarrod… no offence Jarrod!”
On being dubbed the nation’s ‘Mean Girls’:
Cat: “A lot of the time I was commenting on scenarios that happened and people either love or hate me for it. But I also do understand I did say some things that were out of line and nasty and I apologise for that. You get carried away and emotions are intense. So I went rogue. Hopefully, I can make up for it going forward.”
On what scenes didn’t make the cut:
Cat: “OK, this should’ve been the best bloody part of the season. [Nick and I were] on the date, we have this beautiful cheese platter, he leant over and picks up this whole wheel of brie and takes a HUGE bite out of it! And he’s like ‘it’s bloody GOOD, want some?’ And I was like oh my Goooood. Get a cracker! He’s a weird dude.”
Romy: “Watching back on my date was a shame. We had the most amazing day together. All you saw on the show was the end when we had a few bottles of wine… and like… the kiss was cut out. I died watching it back, it’s not how it went down.”
Cat: “But his neck tasted really good apparently!”
Romy: “I just go to nightclubs now and sniff people’s necks.”
Cat: “They did make out, and so did Rhiannon and him! People’s kisses are getting cut out. Also, Rhi didn’t ask him that many times to kiss, that was cut from different angles.”
And on who they think wins:
Romy: “Brooke should, but I don’t think she does.”
Cat: “Maybe Britt.”
Alisha: “I don’t think anyone wins.”
Well, that’s a wrap from this year’s villains.
