The Bachy Girls Have Given Their Top Tips For How To Date In Lockdown
The Bachelor had to quickly change gears this year with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forcing the show into shutdown before they came back with ‘Love in Lockdown’, a virtual look at trying to find love in isolation.
With Locky and his numerous girlfriends sent home for a number of weeks, last week saw the first episode of ‘Love In Lockdown’ and it rang true to the Bachy we know and love – there was single dates, a group date, a cocktail party, and a rose ceremony, all done over Zoom.
Being single and trying to date in a pandemic isn’t easy, especially when you’re just relying on video calls to feel close to the person you’re trying to form a connection with. With The Bachelor girls now experts at online dating, they’ve shared their advice for what helped them survive ‘Love in Lockdown’.
Here are the tips, tricks, and advice The Bachelor girls gave when it comes to online dating.
On choosing the right backdrop:
“I tried to position it away from the kitchen so I didn’t have a tap coming out the side of my head lol. Plain backdrops works best,” Roxi advised, while Irena said Locky caught her off guard numerous times with his calls so a backdrop never really mattered. “He once called me when I was at the hairdressers with a head full of foils!” she said.
Kaitlyn also had a relaxed tactic but in a slightly different style of communicating. “I would send photos and videos of my daily activities and a few selfies doing activities but I always made sure the conversation was the 100% main focus,” she said. “But my tips are outdoors is always nice or add a few candles at night. Oh and ALWAYS make your bed if you’re sitting on there!”
On what kind of lighting is important:
All the girls pretty much said natural light, with some using ring lights when the nighttime dates called for it. “I’m terrible at knowing what lighting to use! But I would usually turn my light off and just keep my makeup light on for a softer background light,” Izzy said.
On talking points vs. letting the convo flow naturally:
All the girls suggested letting the convo flow naturally and going from there. “It’s always best to just let it flow naturally, relationships are like a constant flow of conversation, if it’s one-sided it’s not working!” Bella advised.
“I would always worry about what I would talk to Locky about. I hate awkward silence but luckily conversation always flowed and we had heaps to talk about due to lockdown,” Maddy said.
“If he doesn’t like you at your worst then he doesn’t deserve you at your best, right? Sometimes we’d be on a video chat for four hours so any thoughts of angles or lighting went out the window. My arm would end up so tired that the view would be of my double chins and up my nose. I even asked Locky at one point if I had any boogers!” Steph said.
On how much effort to put into your outfit:
Roxi was a fan of rocking the everyday look. “Usually I just rocked my baggy t-shirts, I was just at home chilling so a nice outfit wasn’t necessary.” Irena said Locky often caught her in her workout gear or work scrubs, but cited it was a good way for him to see the real her as well.
Juliette had a different approach. “It’s always a challenge to find something to wear on a regular date so you have to step it up online because without the physical, it’s all visual,” she said. ” I was trying to find cute, pretty dresses and playsuits to wear. I wanted to show I was making an effort him.”
On whether to do activities or not on the “date”:
Some props are useful. “I got my dog to say hello in chats, she kept trying to jump in on the calls so I just let her do her thing,” Roxi said. Irena was an advocate for walking dates, saying that if you both enjoy being out in nature it’s a good way to be able to share that.
And final advice on how to get a second virtual date:
Irena was a big advocate of not waiting for the callback and making the move to call them yourself. Bella advised any single gals or guys out there to remember your date needs to make an impression on you too.
Juliette was all about amping up the creative side. “Watch a film together, paint together, cook the same meal together, play online games together. Dance! But be relaxed and happy,” she said. Kaitlyn was in agreeance with her mate. “Put on some music, have a glass of Prosecco to set the mood and just have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously or you’ll look awkward on camera,” she said.
