Brooke Blurton’s season of The Bachelorette can’t come soon enough. Let’s just pretend that the last two years on The Bachelor/Bachelorette never happened.

Brooke is a a proud Noongar-Yamatji woman and youth worker from Western Australia, and her upcoming Bachelorette season is going to be a world-first for the entire franchise. Brooke will be dating men and women suitors, which has never happened on any version of reality dating show globally. Australia paving the way for representation? Err, that’s truly a first!

The former The Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise contestant is also the first Indigenous woman cast in the titular Bachelorette role in Australia. In short, we are so so so hyped for this season.

And the teasers dropped so far have not disappointed. We’ve seen the start of a cute love story developing between Brooke and The Bachelor costar Jamie-Lee Dayz. Some dude drove up to the red carpet on a tractor, so that’s something that definitely happened! Plus there’s drama brewing, as two contestants become romantically entangled — forgetting about ol’ Brookie in the process. Not cool!

So what else can we expect from the season? We spoke to the legend herself to get all the tea from the mansion!

Brooke Blurton on Jamie-Lee Dayz, what she really thinks about contestants hooking up, and finding love on The Bachelorette.

On the reaction so far from the public:

“I think it’s all been a bit surreal. Now that all the promos are airing and I’m seeing it all unfold, it’s a surreal feeling. I’m seeing people’s reactions being so positive — it’s quite humbling and wholesome. I’m feeling all the emotions,” she said.

“So far it’s all positive and I hope it remains like that. I’d like to be in a place where it’s not so groundbreaking. This is a little push in the right direction to where vital change has to happen in mainstream television and representation. In time, I don’t think it will be as groundbreaking as what people were making it out as this year. I’m really happy to be a part of that.”

On Brooke’s relationship with Jamie-Lee:

“Jamie-Lee and I had this unspoken relationship [on The Bachelor]. While we were both there for Nick — that was my focus getting so far into the experience — but Jamie-Lee came in quite late [as an intruder]. I think a lot of people didn’t see how well we got along in the house.

“We have communicated quite regularly outside of The Bachelor experience, we had a plans to catch-up one time, but we were both so busy with our lives. And we were both in relationships, so we never had that opportunity,” she said.

“It was really nice to have a familiar face on the show. Our relationship outside the experience was quite strong, so it was nice.”

On contestants potentially hooking up with each in the mansion:

“I think it was everyone’s assumption, I don’t think it was my own assumption that that would happen. Obviously, being bisexual you’re going to have an attraction to other girls who are bisexual; they could be attracted to other guys and girls. I assumed that might happen, and if it happens it’s fine. It’s not a massive deal, it’s one of those things. It’s inevitable.”

On whether the men and women stayed in the same mansion:

“I’m not too sure how much I can say with that. I know logistically, I had asked whether they would live separate — only because if I was in that situation as a girl, I would rather have my privacy. It came from a privacy-level that they would live separately and live in different mansions.”

On what drama we can expect:

“Overall, I don’t think there was as much drama as I anticipated. Obviously, I’m a bit more laidback and drama-free — and the people there for me were very similar,” Brooke said.

“Hopefully I’m reverting the show back to when at its core it was about love: falling in love and finding a partner.”

On finding love on The Bachelorette:

“I’m extremely happy. I’m happy in love,” she said. “Things happen for a reason and people’s different experiences can bring you closer to finding one another. I feel like this experience was definitely one of those moments.”

Cute!

The Bachelorette premieres on October 20 at 7:30pm on Channel 10.
