Ryan Carmichael definitely existed at some capacity on Brooke Blurton’s season of The Bachelorette.

Look, we didn’t see much of the guy. We saw him early on in the season participating in the group photoshoot and being stoked that his images would be published in Australian newspapers. Then he flew under the radar for the rest of the time until last night’s episode featuring the human lie detector Steve van Aperen.

It was there that he got some precious screentime after beautiful himbo Kurt threw his mate under the bus for having a bit of a wandering eye. It was alleged that Ryan had feelings for Jamie-Lee, which sparked a tense discussion with Brooke and Jamie-Lee before Ryan was booted from the mansion.

We chatted with Ryan Carmichael about his time on The Bachelorette and his real feelings towards Jamie-Lee Dayz.

On his connection with Brooke:

“I talked to her at every cocktail party and group date we went on. I thought we vibed very well, we had a slight connection, we talked about a lot of things that we aligned in our lives on and what we want for the future. I believe there was a good foundation there for a connection to blossom but unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance.”

On Kurt throwing him under the bus to Steve:

“We talked about it before, I explained to him I was definitely there for Brooke, I can’t remember if that was shown last night but he said that in his chat with Steve. We had chats afterwards and it was a very overwhelming day for all of us, and he [Kurt] was in a very strange mood.”

On the footage we didn’t see of him and Brooke after the human lie detector:

“I got to chat with Brooke later on which unfortunately we didn’t see. It’s disappointing because it looks like I didn’t have a say which wasn’t the case. We had a really good chat to be honest, I was backing myself, and I was really opening up about how I was there for her and for genuine reasons and I thought she believed me at the time.”

On where he stands with Jamie-Lee:

“It was definitely just a platonic friendship. We were close, I was closer to her than the other girls but it was just platonic. It was difficult to watch back on, it came out of nowhere, but you know what you’re signing up for and it could go any way. It is what it is.

“We’ve spoken now and then about the show and what’s being aired. We haven’t spoken since last night’s episode. Jamie-Lee and I were just friends, I was there for genuine reasons and I was there for Brooke. It’s a shame fans of the show didn’t get to see who I really am.”
