An Emo Reviews Bachy’s Jed McIntosh’s Music
Jed McIntosh from The Bachelors is our youngest-ever leading man and in one week we’ve learned a few things about him — but what we’ve really learned is how much he loves drumming.
While he may look like Machine Gun Kelly’s younger brother, Jed grew up in the country, was bullied for being alternative, and found solace is banging out his feelings on the drums, which led to him also writing music.
Jed is actually in a band already, making him our second-ever musical Bachy. But sorry, I will predict his music career will not eclipse the bangers Sophie Monk provided to us in her early pop star days.
Jed’s band featured on Tuesday night’s episode and we reckon they’ll pop up a few more times before The Bachelors comes to an end. A live performance during the finale perhaps? A new love song premiering after Jed potentially proposes? Jed drumming out his heartache when Tash inevitably breaks him? The options are limitless.
So who is Jed’s band, Mood Monroe, and what is their music even like? As a former emo kid who grew up in a very similar environment to our boy Jed, it seemed only fitting that I delved deep into the musical minds of Mood Monroe.
But while on this journey, I realised, yes, Jed is in a band, but he is ALSO releasing solo stuff as of a couple of months ago. And it’s low-key catchy AF.
But let’s start at the beginning…
Mood Monroe: A history
The Triple J Unearthed website describes the band as reminiscent of Imagine Dragons and the Weeknd.
Forming in 2019, the Melbourne trio teamed up with producer Robert Amoruso who’s worked with bands like The Rubens before, and ended up in Los Angeles performing a “packed debut” at Hollywood venue Bardot, according to Triple J.
Their debut single ‘Liar’ has over 500,000 streams on Spotify, with their second single ‘Beautiful’ reaching over 300,00.
Most popular song:
Mood Monroe’s most popular song to date is their debut single ‘Liar’ and we’ll admit, it’s a catchy banger.
They’ve also filmed an official video for their single ‘Fall’ which involves the band looking very moody and contemplative while water falls on them. It’s almost like if a ’90s boy band like the Backstreet Boys looked a bit more brooding and felt a bit more electronically emo.
They’re actually not THAT emo
Look, Jed never really said he was in a full-blown emo band, so that’s what I get for making assumptions based on his look.
The band is a bit more electronic, the songs have a bit more of an underlying dance beat, and look, they’re good! They’re catchy! I wouldn’t rush to a gig, but I wouldn’t not sway side-to-side after a couple of voddy lime sodas, ya know?
But wait… Jed’s releasing his own music now?
OK, in my research this part was new to me! I obviously knew Jed was in a band, but I didn’t realise he was actually doing his own stuff on the side.
Here’s the video for his song ‘Drown’, which not only shares the same name as a Bring Me The Horizon song, but if you listened to the chorus with your eyes closed, you might nearly think Oli Sykes’ younger brother was giving vocals a go.
The verses are a bit more MGK, and not gonna lie, I just really wanted him to throw in a breakdown and a scream in there too to turn it into a real banger, but we can’t always get what we want.
Either way, it 100% sounds like a song I’d listen to when I was alone in my room in 2006 after another horrendous day of high school.
His next song ‘Pretty Poison’ is less of a banger than ‘Drown’ in my opinion because it’s not as depressing (lol), but I am also dying to know if it’s written about someone from the show.
Also there’s something oddly endearing about Jed dancing in a field of flowers.
MAYBE HE’LL PERFORM THIS IN THE FINALE?
Let’s be real.. a musical Bachy finale can’t be any weirder at this point than what we’ve already witnessed with three straight men at the helm.
What’s next for Jed’s music career?
Mood Monroe have a brand new song coming out Jan 27th.

And as for Jed’s solo career? Who knows! But if he’s open to suggestions, Jed, my man, go screamo too. Show us you can do it all. King of range! Give us emos what we deserve!
If you need me, I’m gonna go listen to ‘Drown’ again. Don’t judge my 2023 Spotify Wrapped, it was uhhh… all for work.
