The Challenge kicked off last night and I’m already goddamn hooked.

The Aussie adaption of the popular US reality franchise lures in reality stars to compete against one another in a series of gruelling challenges. If that doesn’t sound like your vibe, don’t worry — they’re also all living together so there’s plenty of drama.

The Challenge has some huge characters in the mix, from Married at First Sight’s Cyrell Paule to iconic Bachy stars like Ciarran Stott, Brittany Hockley, and Brooke Blurton. And we already have a new couple to obsess over, as Konrad Bień-Stephen and Megan Marx are rumoured to get together.

We caught a glimpse at their romance in the first teaser which features two people smooching in a spa. Based on the latest teaser, things get a bit steamy!

On last night’s episode, the two Bachy stars were partnered up in the first challenge which saw influencer Suzan Mutesi and boxer Billy Dibb eliminated. So what actually happened between Konrad and Megan and where do the two reality faves stand now? We simply had to find out all the tea.

We spoke to Konrad Bień-Stephen and Megan Marx about what went down on The Challenge:

Why did you return to reality TV for The Challenge?

Megan: “I had sworn off doing reality TV again (laughs) because it was always dating shows and I ended up in shitty relationships after, but The Challenge’s premise was interesting. I wanted to push my boundaries a bit. I had a hard couple months before doing it and thought, this is just what I need: get away from my normal life and do something different.”

Konrad: “I’m a fan of the show: I’ve watched the US seasons. I was excited when approached to do it, that was one reason. Another reason was for the experience of going overseas to Argentina, I hadn’t been there before. And obviously, the prize money is life-changing,” he said.

“My experience on The Bachelorette was great, I had a really good time! Maybe I was seeing the whole thing through rose-tinted glasses, in terms of thinking it would be all smiles and happy times. I was excited to be doing it again [being on reality TV], but was it naive thinking it would be the same? Definitely.”

What were your first impressions of each other?

Megan: “We met on the plane over to Argentina which was like three flights so the cast got to know each other well. Obviously, Konrad is a good-looking guy. I thought he was attractive. He also seemed a bit sad: he had just gone through a breakup. I thought Konrad seemed great.”

Konrad: “When I first met her before speaking a word, I thought she was stunning. She is a beautiful woman. My first impressions were she was gorgeous, she’s hot. Then once I started to talk to her, I found she was super intelligent, she has a lot going for her. She’s a really interesting person. I naturally gravitated toward her. It’s nice to have conversations with people that you’re attracted to that have depth and substance. She’s a really cool person.”

Did you hit it off straight away?

Megan: “We had both had a tough couple of months before coming on to the show, so we had a lot we connected over. We hit it off pretty quickly.”

Konrad: “She’s really cool, she’s a cool person — we got along straight away.”

What actually happened between you?

Megan: “I can’t tell you! You have to watch the show! Obviously, there was a hot tub incident that’s been widely reported,” she said. “It’s a funny thing when you meet someone on a show and it’s all on-screen, we were being filmed 24/7 which was unlike The Bachelor where we had set filming times.”

Konrad: “I can’t say too much but it’s pretty obvious from the leaked footage that we hooked up. People will just have to watch the show to see what happens.”

Where do you both stand now?

Megan: “I don’t want to spoil how things progress on the show, but I’m in Queensland. Since the show I’ve been in America for a bit, and interstate, and all over the place, it’s not like we even live in the same place.”

Konrad: “Megan and I are good friends. We talk often. We’re friends.”

When you met the cast, were you worried about clashing with any of the bigger personalities?

Megan: “No one wanted to clash with Cyrell. We’ve seen her on TV in the past and she’s Cyclone Cyrell. There’s certain people in the house where you were very aware that you didn’t want to piss off, or have a confrontation with,” she said.

“There were certainly people that you didn’t want to have a fight with because they will destroy you, and Cyrell was one of them. You don’t want to get on her wrong side.”

Konrad: “I get along with most people so I wasn’t worried about clashing with anyone.”

But did you have beef with anyone in the house that spilled over to the outside?

Konrad: “I’m not best friends with everyone on the show. There’s a lot of people I’m really grateful to have met, and will be my friends for a long time, hopefully forever, and then there’s other people I’d rather not talk to ever again.”

Megan, another reality TV romance you’re known for is your on/off relationship with Jake Ellis. Where do you two stand now?

Megan: “You know what, I haven’t seen him for 18 months, or spoken to him. Things didn’t really end that well, I ended up blocking him off [my] phone and WhatsApp, then he blocked me on social media.

“We haven’t seen each other which is probably for the best. I think he would feel the same way. But it’s funny because we both live in Queensland, yet I haven’t bumped into him once.”

Konrad, what was it like reuniting with Brooke Blurton?

Konrad: “The last time I saw Brooke, I was getting into a limo with a rose and getting sent home [from The Bachelorette]. I was interested to see how we were going to get along, not that there’s any bad blood between us, but I was curious about how we get along.

“I think she’s a pretty special person, and the communities she represents, she does a great job at that. I’m not going to say any more.”

Was it awkward being on a show with your ex?

Konrad: “No. For me personally, I try to be mature about previous partners, relationships, and people I’ve dated. Just because I went on a date with someone, it doesn’t mean I can no longer be their friend, or be amicable, or respectful, or have a good time in their presence. I wasn’t worried about that.”

Did you and Brooke discuss what happened with Abbie Chatfield?

Konrad: “No, not really. We all have our own separate lives outside of what happened in that time and we’ve all moved on from that.”

What was your relationship status with Abbie before The Challenge began?

Konrad: “In regards to Abbie and I, I’m not going to talk too much about our relationship out of respect for her privacy and my own. But to clear all that stuff up, we had broken up probably a month before I went on the show.

“We just hadn’t spoken about it publicly.”

The Challenge returns tonight at 7:30pm at Channel 10 and 10Play.
