TikTok Has Become Obsessed With ‘The Hunger Games’ And It’s Unhinged
It’s not just you, The Hunger Games is inescapable on everyone’s timelines lately.
I thought I had busted my algorithm because I needed a video of Peta as the face painted rock for… personal reasons, but it seems that the book series is having a cultural resurgence.
It’s hard to tell if trending topics are manufactured or happen organically, but it’s definitely no coincidence that Hunger Games content is everywhere again.
After all, a movie adaption of the prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is hitting cinemas in November of this year. It’s about President Snow as a teen and will feature Peter Dinklage and (my woman queen) Viola Davis.

Putting a memified lens and a Gen Z spin on The Hunger Games is a trend that resurfaces every few months because there’s a lot to work with when it comes to the series.
Its dystopian premise is just bonkers, with the books and films’ worldbuilding and costuming (particularly at the Capitol) ingrained in such a high-key camp aesthetic — it’s a series many of us have a deep nostalgic connection to.
The TikTok that sent us back down this rabbit hole was this iconic video, a “GRWM to volunteer as tribute”. We were literally screaming. Our government actually is kind of corrupt.
